Advantages: a bath that is easy on sensitive skin

Disadvantages: the tube sometimes leaks

Halos and Horns, as well as being the title of a Dolly Parton allbum as I discovered whilst researching this review, is a range of toileteries for children. All the products are free of "nasties" the company having been set up by a mum called Leila Wilcox in 2005. This is a UK made product.

I first started to use these products when my baby developped eczema. I had used the normal baby products such as Johnsons, and also tried more pricey alternatives like "little me". The latter product despite being "organic" left my hands very dry, I was so pleased when I discovered this product which was and still is reasonably priced at £1.74 currently, and was readily available from Tesco and other supermarkets.

The product:

What makes this product different is that it is SLS (sodium laureth/lauryl sulphate) free. If you, like me do not hold a degree in chemistry, that as far as I can tell all you need to know is that SLS's are a harsh detergent which can cause irritation to the skin. Clearly you can wash your baby with just water but as an alternative this product, which can be used when your baby is one month old and up, is a good choice.

It is made from plant derived cleaning agents and is also paraben free - the jury is out on parabens apparently but there has been some concern about their possible link to breast cancer. The product is also free of MIT (irritating to eyes), Tricolosan (possible immune system link) and Propylene glycol.

The product is claims to be:
"Very kind to eyes
Mild and gentle
Hypoallergenic
Dermatologically tested"

Using the product:

On opening the tube the baby bath has not got a strong, pungent smell, it is mild and not overpowering. It is also not too runny and is easily squirted out. It can be used as a body wash or as a bubble bath and is neutral cream colour.
If you are used to SLS products, and especially if you live in a hard water area as I do, you will find this does not foam as much as you are used to. However it cleans well and leaves skin soft. Best still, on use of this product my child's skin did actually clear up as claimed, I notice a marked difference if I use anything else. It leaves skin smelling fresh and appropriately baby-like.

The packaging:

The tube is made of recyclable plastic and contains 250ml. Opening at the bottom as it does, one thing I find is though it stands up well it can leak everywhere if not closed properly or if grabbed by little hands. At least this product is not over-packaged however a normal bottle might work better.

Would I recommend?

I would totally recommend this product in preference to Johnson's who are the best known "name" in baby baths. If your child has toddler eczema it is worth a try. I still use this baby bath with my children even though they are quite far from the baby stage; I have yet to find anything as good, and we also use other products in the range like shampoo and body wash.

I love Halos and Horns for being a company producing a great product at a good price for what seem to be the right reasons.

Make bath time fun and safe with Halo and Horns!

Never heard of this. Childhood excema has been linked with using baby products in the first 6 months of life so I would personally not advise it but certainly sounds good for the toddler. Great review Helen x
