Advantages: no harsh chemicals, eczema/dermatitis friendly and many others
Disadvantages: slightly dear but honestly a small scarifice for the goodness it works.
Have you ever scrutinized agonizingly and hunted frantically for the right product while toiletries shopping for your little one or have you just grabbed the most expensive brand off the shelf and put it in your trolley..
And the various answers could be...
' I have bought the most expensive brand and it has suited my child and my budget fine, surely the most expensive would be the best'...well congratulations..you are of the lucky few who have a big budget to spend from and a child with non-sensitive skin .
' I have looked into what is available and have tried different brands both cheap and dear and buy the ones I find good these days'.. well congratulations again , glad your child has non--sensitive skin .
and finally ..
' No not even one of the various ones I have tried or the dearest one seems to stop my baby from itching away and cutting herself/himself up..... oh I am sorry it is heartbreaking to see your little one suffer so, it hurts to bandage their arms at night and hard to clip their nails at the least sign of emergence .
What would I not do to soothe away those angry red cheeks, the scratchy flaky scalp , the color-chequered arms and legs , the rough coarse thick skin and even the wheeze of an asthama attack....
I have gone through the last phase and it was a nightmare till I finally realised that using certain products not only led to lesser flare-up of eczema in sensitive skinned little ones but also sort of soothed them to a certain extent
Product :***
----------
Bath-times have become so much more fun for my little one once I brought home the Halos N Horns range of kid's bathing stuff...including
Berry burst shampoo and detangler
Mango melon mayhem shampoo and conditioner
Zingy orange body wash
Halo baby bath
Toothy-fruity toothpaste
I will just go on to type out my experience with the Mango-mayhem shampoo and conditioner and review the other products sometime in future perhaps.
Packaging : ***
------------
It's a kid's product and comes in a very cute, bright and colourful lime -green tube with the picture of a childishly drawn happy faces for the O's in the product title and a green messy hand-print on a white background.
The fliptop tube is a very impressive and attractive addition to any bathroom cabinet I would say. Product can be squeezed out to the last drop/blob.
The tube top is very tight and does not leak like some brands do...
The label also reads..kind to the eyes , hypoallergic skincare for sensitive souls.
Content: ***
----------
200mls of gloopy lime green shampoo with the gorgeous zesty pulsating smell of the fresh tropics... mostly of unripe mangoes and musk-melon(not sure if I have imagined it but of limes too ) which would be a hit with most kiddies .
Its made up of natural substances like:
+Parfum and Denatonium Benzoate -for the yummy smell...being bitter it prevents even the most inquisitive child from eating the soap( no reason why the life of sensitive little ones has to be perfume free... most sensitivy friendly products are perfume friendly).
+Urea- for the skin softening property.
+Aqua , Cocoamide DEA(secondary surfactant from coconut), DisodiumEDTA(surfactant from coconut), Glycol diastearate (making the shampoo shimmery and transparent) , sodium chloride(table salt), Glycerine (for softness) and several others of the like.
Unlike most other products found in the market Halos N Horns products are free from:
-Sodium Laureth / Lauryl Sulphate (SLS/SLES) which is the most common , effective and cheap surfactant used in most toiletries to make them foam and clean but would irritate dermal sensitivity as it is harsh and strips the skin of its essential natural oils.
-Parabens which are a group of preservatives present in most soaps/detergents that harshly eliminate bacteria and microbes and at the same time disbalance the natural ph of the skin and are suspected carcinogens as well.
-Pthalates -studies have shown that exposure to this group of chemicals in the early days can lead to reproductive disorders in male babies later on in life.
-Triclosan which is another chemical that has microbial activity and could have possible harmful effects on the immune system.
-Methylisothiazoline (MIT) ..that is another preservative and causes irritation.
-Propylene Glycol which is a group of skin humectant but again causes irritation in skin and eyes.
Directions for use :***
--------------------
The instructions is given on the pack.
Well it lasts for ages as it is thick gooey mass but will depend on how much or how frequently the child uses it really .
I just use a teaspoon full amount for my daughters shoulder-length hair .Leave it for 30 seconds if I have oiled the hair (or wash it off immediately otherwise) and it rinses off very quickly too without leaving the feeling of something slimey having stayed on .
Does'nt foam much so don't be tempted to use more.
My impression :****
-----------------
Hats of to the efforts the company has put into it and to the shampoo itself.
Easy to rinse off and tear-free(have tried using it with eyes open myself).
Makes the hair really soft , healthy and silky without drying out the scalp or making it itchy(which is a blessing for my child ).
The hair is easy to brush and manageable too .
Need very little amount unless your child is someone modelling for Persil detergent.
Great product with a lingering yummy mild smell (don't get the horns out about the MELON smell before you've tried it).
Comes in squeezy tube hence all of it can be used without being wasted .
One of my friends(adult with skin problem has tried it on my advise) and she has given up on all other soaps and shampoos for her own self .
Price and availability:***
----------------------
£2.99 in most places including their own website from where it can be ordered online www.halosnhorns.co.uk .
It's a shame tesco have stopped stocking them, can still be found in Morrisons(that's where I buy it from usually have them for £1.99 each or sometimes on deal at two for £3).
You could also give a ring at 01202 780558 to find out the nearest stockist .
Would say this is not really inexpensive but seeing what it it does I think it is value for money and then I tend to stock up when they are on deal...lol!!
I don't know if I will get crowning glory for sharing my experience on here or not but I do know for sure that any parent out there who feels/feel the slightest urge to use this product on their kid (with sensitive or normal skin) after reading this will be wearing the same crown which comes from the relief at not having to see your child bleeding from those nasty itchy skin monsters anymore or subjecting your child to chemicals or adding on further miseries on the poor little souls.
This range of products is supposed to be asthama friendly too , but I have no hands on feedbacks on this to share.
My daughter has a shiny crown of hair now ..ta ra rum pum!!!
Summary: I have made my little ones life a lot easy by buying halos n horns.
