Advantages: absorbant, snug fit, less bulky than most

Disadvantages: Different sizes higher cost

When my daughter was about 6 weeks old we were given some sandy's nappies in the small size along with motherease one size. I thought these were a fantastic nappy for smaller babies and if it hadn't been for the fact you had to buy separate sizes then i probably would have continued to use them.

******The Nappy******

The Sandy's nappy is a very snug fit and is fastened using poppers - the same system as the motherease onesize. It has a fantastic fit to it - there are poppers at the legs and the waist so it really does fit every size of baby.

I found these especially useful for my daughter at around 6 weeks as the legs are elasticated and the slimmer fit ensured there were no leaks. We used the motherease one size along with these and found these were a much better fit when she was that little bit younger and smaller.

There are various different styles of nappies you can buy and the sandy's is known as a shaped nappy. This nappy in particular is fantastic for anyone who is new to cloth because it works just like a disposable would.

I shuold probably mention here than you need to use a wrap with these nappies - i chose the motherease airflow wraps and these were fantastic.

******Material******

These nappies are made from 85% cotton and 15% polyester so they are very nice to the skin. Some of the nappies i've seen have felt kind of scratchy but these were always lovely.

The nappies are available in different materials depending on what you prefer. The Xsmall nappies are available in natural, organic and bamboo but for some reason they aren't available in white. The other sizes, small and large, are available in natural, white, organic and bamboo.

******Laundry******

We were advised to wash these at 60 or 70 degrees but i found a wash at 40 degrees did the job just fine. We washed them at 60 every couple of weeks just to be on the safe side.

******Sizes******

These comes in three sizes and i still don't understand why they've chosen the size names they have. They come in an xsmall, small and large - no medium. As a rough guide:

Xsmall is roughly 6-12lb (slimmer fit for a smaller baby)
Small is 8-20lb
Large is 20-35lb.

It is worth mentioning there is a bigger nappy for those that aren't potty trained at 35lb but these are known as the Toddleease. I think they've used this name rather than calling it an extra large - i can't think of any other reason. This one is also only available in natural.

******Prices******

The prices vary greatly depending where you want to buy them from and whether you want to buy them new or used.

If you buy them directly from the motherease website then the prices vary from £7.25 for the xsmall to £10.00 for the large. The different materials are priced differently too but you should pay more for the bamboo ones as we've found them much more absorbant than just the plain white or natural ones.

You can buy boosters to go along with these but as far as i know there is no specific booster. I don't think the booster in these is as good as the motherease one size or other nappies available that snap in and so keep it in place. The boosters cost around £2 each.

******Cost Effective?******

These are cost effective if you don't want a bulky nappy on your newborn but there are certainly cheaper ways of using cloth nappies.

If you have a small baby that requires the xsmall nappy, then you will be purchasing a large number of 3 sizes of nappies, at £7-£10 each this can be very expensive.

******Verdict******

These are a great nappy, especially for those heavy wetters but they are more expensive than one size nappies. I actually preferred using these but the cost put us off. The fit is fantastic and we had no leaks from these at all (used with the motherease airflow wraps). A great buy for someone inexperienced in cloth nappies and wants them as close to disposables as could be.

Summary: A great buy for those inexperienced with cloth nappies.

Hi I found the review (you asked me why I said useful). The main difference between all the nappies we have tried is whether they leak or not, wee/poo/very runny poo, you didn't really mention this, also the smell, some nappies cover it better than others, as these aren't fragranced, could you smell poo?
