Advantages: Good little set of 3 bath toys, good for pre-schoolers and In The Night Garden fans

Disadvantages: Very basic and slightly overpriced

My sister-in-law asked me what my daughter would like for her birthday. She was short of bath toys and was a huge 'In The Night Garden' fan at the time so I suggested a Makka Pakka bath toy which I had seen around in a number of different stores such as Mothercare, Tesco, Boots and Toys R Us.

The Makka Pakka bath toy varies in price but is generally between £9.99 - £12.99, and comes packaged in an open fronted carboard box.

There are 3 toys included - a Makka Pakka, an uff-uff and trumpet.

The Makka Pakka toy looks just like the real character and is about 6 inches high and 3 or 4 inches wide. One of his hands is cupped which allows you to fit his trumpet into it. It is made soley of plastic and is hollow. His feet have 2 holes in the bottom and the 3 'things' which are on his head spirt water out of the ends. When you fill him up and tip him upside down, the water spirts out in 3 directions.

The uff-uff is Makka Pakkas hand dryer in the programme (if you are unaware of what Makka Pakka actually does - he goes around The Night Garden and cleans everything and everyone with his soap and sponge, and then dries them with his uff-uff). The uff-uff toy is made of a tough rubber material. It acts like a water pistol and when filled up with water and squeezed the water shoots out. It takes quite a lot of effort for little people to squeeze but can be done. The water shoots out fast and really far, this might destroy your bathroom floor but will have your little one in histerics.

The trumpet is a small orange plastic toy which has a funnel one end and a small opening at the other. It also has a handle which sits in Makka Pakkas hand. The toy can be used for funneling water into empty bottles and such. It is pretty basic and doesn't really do much more than that. Oh but my daughter really enjoys putting it upto her mouth and doing the 'do do do' noise into it that Makka Pakka does when he blows into his trumpet.

None of the toys have small parts and all seem very safe. The age recommendation is 18 months plus. The Makka Pakka bath toy is also unisex.

Sinse my daughter received the Makka Pakka bath toy she has lost interest in 'In The Night Garden' a little bit (she's onto bigger and better things such as Dora!) but she still enjoys playing with the bath toy every bath time.

Children that like the programme will like this toy but even if they don't they should still enjoy the toy.

I also find it helps to use Makka Pakka to wash hair. It's not a miracle but it certainly helps. "oohh here comes Makka Pakka and he wants to wash your hair!".

Overall this is a nice little bath toy set and is good for pre-schoolers (particularly those who enjoy In The Night Garden). However it may just be a little too basic for some and somewhat overpriced aswell.

Summary: A basic bath toy but does the trick.
