Advantages: Great for sensitive skin.

Disadvantages: No smell to mask the aroma of dirty bums and too dry.

This review is for the Huggies Pure Baby Wipes.

Thankfully all of my nieces and nephews are out of nappies, all except for one which I sometimes have to perform Auntie duties with and last weekend was no exception.

~ Price ~
I bought the duo pack with 144 wipes about a month ago from Boots for £3.59 but the following sizes and prices are available:
Boots:
* 72 pack - £2.69
* 288 pack - £4.99

Tesco:
* 72 pack - £2.48
* 144 pack - £3.28
* 288 pack - £5.00

Compared with other brands.
Johnson & Johnson £2.60 for 72 wipes
'Simple' Baby wipes £2.69

~ Huggies Baby Wipes ~

* Huggies Pure Wipes
* Huggies wipes with aloe vera and vitamin E

~ Packaging ~

These wipes come in a blue packet / wallet type thing with a picture of Winnie the Pooh on the front fishing with some other characters from the books.

At the top there is a plastic rectangular section which can be pulled open and shut to keep the wipes moist inside. This is very easy to use and can be done single-handed which is an all important feature when you have your other hand full of the babies legs and a wriggling toddler in your grasp!

Inside the lid there is an adequate size oval cut out, through which the wipes are pulled.

One thing I did notice, is that unlike other wipes I have used, I didn't get 3 or 4 coming out from one tug. They come out alone which is great if you only need the one.

~ The wipes ~

On opening the plastic film I instantly noticed that these did not have the usual pleasant smell that I like with other wipes as the smell helps combat the unpleasant dirty nappy smell!

The wipes have a cute little feature on them. Little teddy bears imprinted on them but let's face it are you really interested in that when faced with a dirty nappy?!

The wipes themselves are a little too dry for my liking which results in you requiring quite a few to wipe off the necessary. I know that some other brands can be just too wet and drippy but these are too much the other way. They are just ever so slightly moist which did result in some fluff coming off them when I was wiping and it just wasn't quick enough which prolonged the agony of nappy changing for me and him.

They are approx 19cm by 16cm and are very strong which is great when you are knee-deep in nappy mess! You really don't want anything that falls apart easily.

As well as using them for cleaning bums, I have used them with the 5 - 6 year olds for wiping sticky messy hands when I'm out and about with them so they are very handy to have in the car. For this they are better as they have no perfume so when their dirty faces are wiped they don't get a horrible taste in their mouths if they lick their lips straightaway.

The wipes have 98% water and no perfume and on the packet it states ' Gentle cleaning, like cotton wool and water'.

You would also be well advised to 'Bag it and Bin it, don't 'Flush it' which is what my brother used to do and ended up with blocked drains!!

- My Verdict -

Although not a coinneseur of nappy wipes, I have used quite a few different brands over the years and these don't come close to others, in particular Boots own wipes which you can often get good BOGOF offers on.

I bought these in haste and would certainly not be buying anymore for a number of reasons:
* No pleasant smell
* Too dry
* The top one often dries out completely even when the plastic film at the top is sealed down

Saying that, I'm sure that these would be ideal for anyone who has a baby whose skin is very sensitive to perfumed wipes as they are very pure! But since none of the offspring in this clan have ever suffered from sensitive skin, these really don't impress me at all.

Summary: I won't be buying these again!

I'm a supermarket own brand girl myself. I heard that you can put them in a washing bag and wash them in the machine and use them again, but I havent tried this as I am too afraid of opening the door to lots of shredded paper. As I use washable nappies I use reusable wipes as well, and a little water/detergent/camomile tea. Wipes are essential when travelling though!

Cotton wool and warm water are best but when you go out wipes are a good idea. I likes pampers best. Ann

baby wipes are a waste of money even on Bogof. its like throwing a penny into the bin at its cheapest. Kitchen roll and water d a better job, and if you want detergent on it, some a squirt of baby bath.
