Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Dry, leave debris behind, cause skin irritation, snag on the skin, stability of damp toilet tissue

Much to my dismay my husband recently came back from purchasing the weekly shopping with a large box containing six packs of Huggies Baby Wipes. He had spotted them on special offer and estimated that they would work out a little cheaper than our usual preferred brand. However they didn't of course and Huggies are a brand of baby wipes which I avoid at all costs.

In the beginning I would always use simple cotton wool and water to clean my baby son's bottom. However this wasn't always convenient in terms of practicality. He is now a 16 month old toddler and the majority of our time is spent out of the house visiting playgroups and places of interest. I therefore need to have to carry a pack of baby wipes with me. I also share my son's baby wipes as I use them to remove any make up at the end of the day.

Huggies however are very unfavourable with me for a number of reasons. Firstly they are very dry in comparison to other brands. They have the texture and stability of damp toilet tissue. Because they are so dry I find that they snag on my son's skin rather than glide smoothly. After using these wipes my son has always been guaranteed to get a very red and sore bottom.

Because of their flimsy structure they will very often break when attempting to remove one from the packet. Small tissue like particles come away from the wipes upon touch and are rather annoying.

When using these wipes for myself I have also been highly disappointed. They do not remove make up efficiently. They will simple cause my make up to clump and move it around rather than lifting it from my skin. This of course causes me to question just how well they will clean a baby's bottom.

On occasion I have also used these wipes to remove stains from my clothes such as baby food that my son has thrown at me. Once again I am reminded of damp toilet tissue as they deposit white tissue like debris on my clothes.

Similarly I have to take great care not to handle these wipes immediately before applying my contact lenses. The small tissue like particles stick to my skin and can be easily transferred to my lenses.

In summary therefore Huggies baby wipes define the word 'useless'.

They are currently available at £2.44 for a pack of 72 wipes from Tesco. However I highly advise anyone to try Tesco's own basic baby wipes at just 76p for a pack of 80. They are strong, extremely moist, very kind on the skin, do not leave any bits behind, remove dirt and make up effortlessly and are quite simply a bargain!

Summary: Useless
