Advantages: thick, soft
Disadvantages: too wet, bag too hard to open
Whilst back home visiting my family I ran out of baby wipes so I asked my sister to pick me some up on her way home from work. ?I got you these? as she said plonking down two strange looking bag things in front of me ?they were on buy one get one free? These strange bag type things proclaimed to be ?Huggies 64 cotton touch wipes? I had never used these before but as they were the fragrance free ones I guessed they?d do the trick. They come in a self-sealed bag, like those zip lock bags you can get to put your butties in and have another inner bag you have to rip through to get to the wipes. My wipes are in a predominantly cream bag with a blue bottom; this is obviously to distinguish that they are fragrance free. It says on the pack that the wipes are suitable for newborn and sensitive skin/pH balanced/alcohol free (though I didn?t receive any free alcohol with this purchase!) Ok to open up this strange bag you have to pull apart the plastic seal and quite forcefully so. When this bag is sealed it really is sealed well and good. Now this is an advantage as it stops your wipes from going dry but have you ever got part way through changing your little bundle of joy and realised you?ve not opened your wipes? Not usually a problem with the usual packet of wipes because you just pull them from the top but you try and open this bag with one hand and your stuck. If you have a wiggly baby like my daughter who will not stay still to be changed then you really will be in trouble if you do not pre-open your wipes before changing them. Ok so you?ve got into your bag for the first time, now you have to break the inner bag which is a bit of a job, have scissors at hand to aid you, ok another seal broken and we?re there at the holy grail itself. The wipes. The wipes are approximately 5 inches square covered in a pattern of teddy bears. They are VERY soggy; these are definitely the wettest wet wipes I have come across. So
you have to peel them apart quite forcefully; another bind when you have only got one hand with which to operate. Even though they say they are ?fragrance free? they do smell a bit, its kind of a plasticky lotion smell which if any of you use fragrance free skin treatments will recognise instantly. They are fairly thick and they do feel lovely and soft between my fingers. If you are predominately going to use these to wipe up messes then for that purpose they are very good, Wet and yet strangely absorbent they are good for wiping sticky fingers and food covered faces but when you come down to the bottom of it all (sorry about the bad pun, I couldn?t help myself) they are no where near as helpful. Lets face it when you are dealing with babies bottoms you are dealing with poop and these wipes are muck spreaders not pooper scoopers. They spread the doings instead of picking it up and removing it. I find I use about 3 of these wipes on my daughter after a dirty nappy and my normal wipes I use 1 or 2 at a push. Also when she has only done a wet one the very dampness of these wipes leave her bottom sodden, and more often than not I end up using some cotton wool or tissue to dry her off because otherwise she gets red from the dampness. My sister bought these for me on buy one get one free so it worked out at £2:99 for the two which on the grand scale of things is fairly reasonable, however I would never even contemplate paying this much for just the one bag they are really not worth that much. In conclusion then these are probably a good choice of wipe if you have older children and you just use them on hands and faces but for use on young babies they are pretty useless. Overall I think they are expensive for what they are and the new look bag design is more trouble than it is worth. Do it with Huggies wipes? Nah I wouldn?t bother myself.
