The mats are soft on one side with pictures of Winnie the Pooh on them, they are blue with the pictures printed in a darker blue, and on the other side the mats have a water proof backing to protect the surface that baby is on. Although the mats are disposable, I will keep the same one for a few changes as long as it doesn't get wet or dirty. Many changing bags now come with a fold up travel changing mat but they are often quite bulky, these packs of mats are brilliant to pop one in the changing bag and don't take up very much space which, if you are anything like me, makes a huge difference.
