Advantages: enables youto take your baby swimming
Disadvantages: not sure how much longer than 30 minutes they would last
Babies and swimming pools are two concepts that not so long ago would have seemed mutually exclusive to me. I mean what would you do with the bottom end, surely nappies would just get satuated and leak everywhere ( I know not a nice image) on exposure to water.
But we’d heard that there were such things as baby swimming classes available. We both agreed that this would be a good thing for Scarlett as it took us both ages to learn to swim as kids. We were both pleased to learn that there is such a thing as a swim nappy. We picked Huggies swim nappies primarily because we were buying normal nappies in Sainsburys and happened to spot these huggies nappies.
According to their website(www.huggies.com) the nappies are designed for children from 6 to 36 months. This is based on average weights. Scarlett was four months when she started swimming classes, but then she is a big girl! The first size is small (7-12kg), medium (11-15kg) and large (14kg+).The swim class we go to is for babies from three months up so it must be possible to get nappies for babies of this age from somewhere.
The nappy pack we brought has a little mermaid theme, from what I can see on the website you can also get nappies with a tiger or little fish theme I think there is some kind of disney thing going on, but I don’t recognise where the charactes are from. Each nappy is colourful with a pretty picture of little mermaid on it. The nappies can be worn on their own or under swimwear.
The nappies are unisex and the back is slightly bigger so its easy to tell which way they go round. The sides are elasticised pink strips that easily stretch to fit when placed on the baby. They are also easy to take of after swimming They have tear away sides that to state the obvious can just be torn away to get the nappy of. This is a godsend after swimming, because by this point Scarlett is cold and screaming the place down!
So far they have proved absorbent and there has been no sign of any leakage! The swimming lesson is only for half an hour, so it hasn’t been tested for a large amount of time. Scarlett’s explosive poohs tend to go everywhere (too much information!) so I’m dreading the day she’s banned from baby swimming for messy behaviour!
The nappies come in packs of twelve and cost about £5. Hopefully Scarlett will be wearing them for quite a while as she seemed to quite take to swim lessons, well she didn’t scream the pool down anyway!
