Advantages: Disposable?, absorbent, easy to remove when wet, don't swell when wet
Disadvantages: Disposable?, not available for babies under 16lb
I wanted to start taking my baby swimming at a young age so I started looking around for ‘swim nappies’. Huggies little swimmers seemed the obvious choice, mostly as they were the only ones I could see in my local Boots. They are disposable and are more like a pull up pant than a nappy making them a little more difficult to put on. They have an absorbent part which absorbs wee very well without a great deal of ‘swelling’. They also have a waterproof outer part so the swimming pool water isn’t absorbed. On the plus side they have rip down side seams for easy removal and you then just throw them away – meaning no transporting of wet pant home, no washing or drying. They also have a high waist so less likelihood of leakage out the top. They have elasticated legs, which seemed to fit well and stop leakage out the leg holes. They are also neat enough to fit underneath my daughter’s swimming costume. However you can use them on there own so you don’t actually need a swimming costume. But she does look soooo cute in her costume!! On the minus side the smallest size they come in fits a 16lb baby. I didn’t notice this until I got them home (duh – I just looked at the small bit and thought they must fit) and my baby was much smaller than this at the time. Because of this I started looking around for other swim pants and started using the floaties aquanappy which I am actually more happy with (see my review of these!) Now my baby is older I do use them occasionally. As they are disposable you have to throw them away and this makes them a lot more expensive if you plan to swim regularly. However for a spare pair of swim pant – on the beach etc – you can’t go wrong with them. On another note a leaflet you might find useful (I did) is from Little Swimmers, Making a Splash, PO BOX 951, Bucks, SL9 9UN. It has
advice on taking your baby swimming and where to find baby friendly pools. You need to enclose an A5 SAE but I thought it was worth it.

- 27/07/01 Good op! Wish I'd read it before today, when I used them for the 1st time! Lucy is 14lb, and they let in lots of water, which must mean that anything (!) could be leaked out!! I'll look for floaties for next time. - Jane |

- 27/02/01 I can only seem to find them in one size anyway! I much prefer the re-usable type - It makes me feel that little bit greener. |
