Advantages: You are able to take your child swimming without fear of accidents
Disadvantages: Quite hard to get on young babies.
I have three children. And apart from certain makes of re-usable nappies I don't remember there being disposable swim nappies when I had my first two. Perhaps I just didn't spot them in the shops. I remember taking my son (now almost 6) and my daughter (now 3 and a half) at a very young age. And whilst they loved swimming trips, I was always very nervous about the extra's that might end up floating in the pool. I was extremely lucky that everytime I went we did not have an accident. I would have been mortified! I was brave as I am sure that lots of other mothers have been and took them in just their swimming costumes. When my third child another girl was born in February I received the usual bounty pack from the hospital. Inside was an advert for the Huggies Little Swimmers. I at first thought that they would not be any good and that they would be simmilar to normal nappies and fill up and go all big and saggy, when put into water. I did decide to try them and bought a pack for £4.99 in my local Tesco's store. There were 12 in a pack and there are various sizes. I bought the UNISEX - SMALL which is 16-26lb or 7-12kg. As they are unisex you get the luck of the draw with the colours. My friend got Pinky/Purple ones, whereas mine were blue. Great fun for me as my daughter has hardly any hair and even when wearing a flowered dress people say Ahhhh isn't he lovely! I took them to my local swimming pool and found them ok. They are very difficult to get on. I do have a baby with a chubby bottom but even so because they are like pull up nappies rather than velcro fastening it makes it very difficult to get them on a young baby. With older babies or children you can put them over the feet. Pick the child up and then pull them up like pants or knickers. To do this however, with a young baby with wobbly head and wobbly legs is not as easy as it may seem especially when the nappy comes up tight.
r> Once on they fit quite well and snug. I cannot say that they would stop any urine from entering the pool, it does say on the packet that it has leak guards to help stop leaks. I am not so sure but they would certainly stop any number two's from going for a float about! Then came the getting them off again! It says on the packet that it has tear away sides for easy removal. I can't say that it was that easy but they did tear in the end. I think the price is very fair considering you get 12 swims for that price. They don't swell up and you can put a costume over the top of them. They are fairly good but I wouldn't say they were fantastic. They are only on for a short time though and do there job. I would buy them again just for piece of mind. The main good point about these swim nappies is the fact mum's and dad's can take a baby swimming without the fear of an accident.
