Advantages: No embarrassing leaks, Stylish, Affordable

Disadvantages: Easy tear sides not so easy when wet

Kayleigh loves her water, as you would have probably learnt about her by now. We have been going swimming from about five months at our local swimming baths. They have a lovely mother and baby session, where you are guaranteed not to have anyone belly flop on you or be eagled at by any pervy men! They insist however that you have your child in appropriate swimming nappies so that no little or big accidents occur. This is for basic hygiene and good manners.

The first time we went I had no swimming nappies with me, it hadn't even entered my mind. I knew that her normal huggies nappies swelled up in water from when Kayleigh decided to throw them in the toilet! Luckily they had some single Huggies Little Swimmers on sale there so I gave one a go. I paid £1.00 for one small pink (16-26lbs) swim nappy. This is very expensive way to buy them but if you just want to give them a try or if you forget your own it is very convenient,. They also sell these one packs at holiday camps, I found them at a recent holiday to Devon Cliff with Haven.

I remember thinking that it Kayleigh was really grown up wearing her first swimming nappy, one of milestones you write in your baby book. We got ready for our first swim, I put Kayleigh in the play pen beside me while I got changed and then got her ready. Luckily it has a little label at the back so you can tell the front from the back. I found the swim nappy easy to put on, though i had to wiggle her bum a bit to get the nappy over it. I put her costume over it, though it seemed a shame as the pink nappy design is gorgeous.

We went into the pool and spent the majority of our 20 minute visit sitting in the shallow water splashing each other. I was more nervous about the visit that Kayleigh ever was. She really enjoyed herself and we try and go at least a couple of times a month now.

Her swimming nappy did not swell up at all. The nappy was fairly easy to take off, you just tear it either side. I did
find that it needed a good tug to get it to rip though. I have found the best way is to just tear one side and unless they have done a poo, you just take it off the one remaining leg. When I took it off it looked like she had done a wee but the nappy had not balloned around her and become like a swimming float!

Kayleigh is still in the small size swimmers, they are very well designed in that they stretch well when needed and have always been comfortable for her to wear.

I was concerned that they wouldn't be as delicate on her skin as her normal nappies but she has never got any sore or aggrevated skin as a result of the nappies. I thought the wee might have reacted differently on her skin with the nappy underwater but it was an unjustified concern.

Since our first swim we have always used the Huggies Little Swimmers, as they have been fully reliable to us. I have never had a leakage of any guide, if you catch my drift. I would recommend them to anyone.

I buy them at Boots for £4.99 for 12. Which works out less than 50p a nappy. I think of it as costing £1 - £1.50 a month depending on how much we go swimming. Cheap if you think about it like that.

They come in three fab colours which are bright and have designs on them. You can choose from Green with frogs and lily pads, blue with frogs and lily pads again or pink with fish and sea horses on them. They are designed that way so they are like swimming pants and not nappies, I bought Kayleigh the most gorgeous Winnie The Pooh swim suit but found no need for her to wear it. She wear the groovy luminous pink swimmers and looks adorable.

They come in three different sizes too, small (16-26lbs), Medium (24-34lbs) and large (32lbs+). So depending on the size of your baby you can start using them at about six months depending on the size of your child. Kayleigh was about 14lb when she first went in the small size and they fitted just fine, and at 26lbs now she is still
in the same size as it fits so well.#

I find swimming nappies work well for us, especially with the rules at our local swimming pool. I would use them at the beach for Kayleigh's comfort and I wouldn't have to worry about where she does her toilet.

This brand is certainly worth a second look, buy the one pack size and see what you think, I bet you will be loyal to them as they do their job well.

Have fun with your swims, we certainly do!

These sound really good. Great review!
I wish my mum had taken me swimming when I was a baby. I never learnt to swim until I was about 8!

These are great! But I find it easier to pull them down like pants rather than rip them at the sides. Ann
