Advantages: None whatsoever

Disadvantages: Irritating to my granddaughters skin, totally non-cleansing

I have heard of these wipes before and decided to try a packet while looking after my 22 month old granddaughter over the weekend, she rarely suffers with nappy rash but currently has one of her final few teeth popping though and this has caused her to have the runs a little which is obviously affecting the delicate skin on her bottom.

Huggies Pure market themselves as being as kind to baby as plain water so they seemed the ideal choice as I was a little bit worried about using the more highly fragranced Johnsons wipes that I usually use.

While they might be unfragranced and rather weakly doused in cleansers, these are not the very best wipes thanks to the fact that they do not clean my granddaughter's skin as thoroughly as is needed and honestly they are not as kind to her bottom as the packaging would lead you to believe.

The unfragranced scent, if that is not a contradiction in terms, is wishy washy and very plastic as though the wipes have soaked up the smell of the plastic packaging. I don't like the smell of these wipes one little bit and don't feel they smell baby-like at all.

The first time I used them was for a dirty nappy, remember I said she has had the runs? Well, this was a very dirty nappy! I struggled, I must admit. The wipes seemed to smear the mess around rather than actually wiping it up, which is a pain to say the least, and even while using a kind of pincer movement with the wipes held between my fingers I couldn't seem to mop up all of the mess and resorted to dampening yet another two wipes with warm water to make sure she was thoroughly clean.

Total wipes used for one poo-ey nappy = 6.

Before the next nappy change my granddaughter started complaining that her bum was sore so I decided she must have done a wee and set about changing her. Surely these useless wipes would cope better with a simple wet nappy? Well, they failed on many levels. For a start when I removed her nappy I saw that her whole bottom from front to back was extremely red and sore looking, I cannot completely blame the wipes for this as as I said earlier she is currently experiencing a little soreness which is down to her teething. The thing is I have never seen nappy rash progress this quickly and can only imagine the wipes had somehow irritated her already sore skin, which is extremely bad news considering these are described on the packet as being such kind wipes!

I didn't use them again yet still have a complaint about them when I came to change her wet nappy. Those of you who have changed a baby girl will know that you have to keep creases and folds of skin spotless, which is why I always ensure that every little bit of mess is removed thoroughly with wipes at every nappy change. I had done it the same way as always, allowing the wipe to let me know when she is clean as obviously when all mess has been removed the wipe will stay clean - which the final wipe did so despite my misgivings I was confident that my granddaughter's skin was clean enough to begin the healing process through her soreness.

Yet twenty minutes later when I changed this wet nappy I used cotton wool balls and warm water to cleanse her only to find that this method actually removed a few smears of poo which hadn't been visible to the eye. I was instantly angry that the wipes had indicated her skin to be clean yet simple water proved that this was not the case at all, girls are obviously more awkward to clean thoroughly than boys as their intimate areas cannot be manipulated in the same way at nappy change time so Mums and Nans are reliant on the wipes to really tell us when baby is completely clean.

These appalling wipes have failed on all counts for both me and my granddaughter. I have written a letter of complaint to Huggies as their wipes are usually adequate, although not one of my favourites as I don't find them generally as gentle as other brands available.

Summary: An appalling baby wipe from a company that really should know better.

i have to say i've found the complete opposite to be true. My son has sever eczema and these are the only wipes we can use. I've never had any bad problems and found great cleaning with no yucky residue.
