Huggies Pure Wipes
Advantages: Pure and gentle
Disadvantages: Hard to get out of packet, not the best at cleaning
When I was pregnant I did a bit of stockpiling on products I knew I was going to use a lot of, baby wipes were near the top of the list and I thought I'd bought more than enough. Once the twins had arrived my stockpile soon disappeared and when looking to buy more these Huggies pure wipes were on offer and I thought I'd give them a try.
These wipes come in a strong plastic packet with a photo of a newborn baby on them. They are opened by pulling back a clear sticker on top. A problem I find with this sticker being clear is that it isn't obvious which end it opens, particularly on a new pack. Other brands have an arrow printed on them to help you out! Fiddling around trying to work out which end isn't stuck down didn't endear me to these wipes. The clear sticker stays sticky though and reseals the packet well right until the end, which in our case is only a few days but they are opened and closed a lot!
The packet claims these wipes provide 'gentle cleaning like cotton wool and water', when my twins were is hospital we didn't use wipes just the hospital disposable cloths and water and so it was nice to see that these wipes would be just as kind.
Upon removing a wipe from the packet the cute teddy bears on the wipe caught my eye, I thought this was a lovely idea and if appearance was the most important thing then great but I want a wipe that cleans well. The wipes feel different to other brands in that they feel more like a strong paper towel than a cloth but I don't find that this makes it easier to clean. They feel nice to the touch but just don't clean up like other brands so I find that I regularly need to use 3 when I would only expect to use 2.
Trying to get these wipes out one handed is impossible as I can never find an edge to grab hold of, more often than not I end up putting a finger through a wipe in the process which then limits its use when cleaning up, argh!
These wipes are perfume and alcohol free and have been clinically tested, neither of my little ones have had any adverse reaction to these wipes. Like most baby wipes they can not be flushed down the toilet.
Price and Availability
These wipes are widely available from stockists of baby toiletries. They are currently half price in Tesco, £1.29 for 64 wipes. I purchased mine when they were on buy 1 get 2 free so £2.59 for 3 packs. I thought this was good value but upon using them I changed my mind as I'd rather pay a bit more and have a wipe I can get out of the packet without putting a finger through it.
Would I recommend?
No, there are far better wipes available at a lower price. If you are buying them it is definitely worth waiting for them to be on a buy 1 get 2 free offer as even at half price I think they are over priced.
Summary: Hard to get into packet then hard to get one wipe out!
