Advantages: Protects from nappy rash
Disadvantages: Tear easily
Poor baby Jack, about a week after he was born he decided to do what I fondly call a "toxic poop" unfortunately he chose to do this during the night and failed to wake us up, obviously comfy in it's warmth (strange little boy) the next morning he was left with a very red, very sore bottom. At the time we were using the Huggies Pure wipes on him but I also had a pack of the Aloe Vera & Vitamin E wipes which promise to help prevent the causes of nappy rash, following on the success of the Pure wipes I decided to give the Aloe wipes a go, hoping they would soothe my little ones sore patches and stop the rash getting worse.
Huggies Aloe & Vitamin E wipes are gently scented but alcohol free, so while they aren't quite as suitable for sensitive skin as the Pure wipes they are still quite mild and considering they promise to prevent nappy rash your child should have no reaction to the wipes. The wipes are available in single packs or multipacks, generally from most supermarkets, pharmacies and general stores such as Wilkinsons, in the region of £3.00 for a 2 pack, although Asda do stock them on offer with 3 packs being £3.35, each pack consists of 64 wipes.
Like the Pure wipes the Aloe wipes are thick with a soft, gentle texture, they're also embossed with a cute teddy bear pattern. As with all Huggies wipes they are all joined together with perforated joints allowing you to pull out several wipes as required but also allowing you to separate them easily should you only want 1 or 2 wipes, like the Pure wipes they don't always stay joined, it can be fiddly and frustrating trying to get a wipe that has broken off from the previous one out of the pack and this is made all the more annoying as you are frequently left with a small ripped piece of wipe between your fingers with the rest still sat in it's packet.
The fragrance of the wipes is very pleasant and fresh, it reminds me more of a soft lime scent then Aloe Vera but it is a nice scent nonetheless and gives the impression that it would be good for the skin rather then harmful. The wipes are very cool and refreshing, with the last wipe just as moist as the first, the re-seal sticker on the pack helps keep the wipes moist for longer, although this will depend on how fast you get through a packet.
When I used the wipes during Jacks bout of nappy rash I found that not only did they clean well and leave him fresh but they also seemed to sooth the soreness, and combined with a little barrier cream to stop the rash getting worse, the wipes did an excellent job at settling the condition and it was cleared up within days. The wipes are lovely and gentle and I've even been able to use them on Christopher's sticky hands despite his sensitive skin and eczema. The wipes don't have to used just for baby bottoms and can be used by older children and adults too, for make-up removal, general cleaning and with the Aloe & vitamin E being soothing ingredients these wipes are ideal even after a little sun burn.
While the tearing aspect of the wipes is inconvenient, and frustrating if you're trying to do a nappy in a hurry, it doesn't take away from the fact that these are very good wipes. Jacks nappy rash was quickly cleared up after using these and he's not had another bout since, I wouldn't hesitate to use this brand of wipes again though especially if the rash makes a come back.
Definitely recommended.
