The company:
Huggies is marketed by Kimberly-Clark. Kimberly-Clark is an American corporation that has a number of brands under them such as Andrex and Kleenex but enough about them and back to the Huggies stuff ...
Nappy Time:
The first nappies I ever used were Huggies. For some reason on both my children these nappies didn't seem to fit. At any given stage they were either too small or too large and the sides weren't nearly as good as other brands. The 'baby shaped' nappy wasn't living up to what it promised. Huggies have Velcro-like tabs on each side on the top of each nappy. The tabs stick to any part of the nappy so a parent can easily adjust the nappy to the perfect position ... Ha! I just wish they would stick every time! These nappies used to come loose all the time. I've never tried the Super-flex ones but a friend of mine says they are brilliant so maybe Huggies have finally figured it out. The price does slightly put me off also. I did a review a little while ago about Asda nappies. I still recommend them first as they are cheap and do exactly what you'd want a nappy to do. A pack of Huggies will cost you roughly £5 depending on where you shop and you can usually pick up a big box at places like Sainsbury's or Tesco (210 nappies) for £22.99.
Some info from the net on the sizes in each range of nappy by Huggies:
* Newborn up to 10 lb - These are for small newborn infants. May be too small for some infants.
* Size 1 - 8-14 lb - For larger newborns and infants up to about 3 months old.
* Size 2 - 12-18 lb - For infants from about 2 months to 6 months.
* Size 3 - 16-28 lb - For the transition of infancy to toddlerhood - for babies from about 5 months to 2 years.
* Size 4 - 22-37 lb - for toddlers from about 1 year to just about 3 years of age.
* Size 5 - 28+ lb - for toddlers to preschoolers from about 2 and a half years to 4 years old. Ideal for preschoolers who still wet heavily at night. About the size of size 4 underwear.
* Size 6 - 35+ lb - for toddlers as well as preschoolers and elementary school kids. For children from 3 and a half to 6. For children who toilet train later than usual as well as those who may be trained during the day but need night-time protection for bedwetting and wet too heavily for Pull Ups products. About the size of Size 6 underwear.
* Size 7- 35- 65Lbs+ - For toddlers or school aged children who have trouble keeping their bed, or shorts dry. suitable for daytime or night-time use
Snug & Dry line also has additional size:
* Size 1-2 - Up to 15 lb
Huggies also makes smaller nappies for premature infants that do not use super absorbents.
Pull-ups:
I used these for a brief time with my eldest and they were quite good. He was luckily a fast learner when it came to potty time so they were only really used at night. They held up their end of the bargain so no complains here. My only gripe is that they come in a pack of 12or 14 and cost just short of £5. I'm quite happy I only used one a night at that price. It didn't take me long to move over to using Pampers Easy Up pant instead as they worked just as well and came in a pack twice the size for the same price. Not a bad product but drastically over-priced.
Wipes:
To be honest I have never been a fan of Huggies wipes as I found them a bit too stiff. I'm partial to wipes that are softer. Just this morning I bought two packs of Huggies wipes in Asda as they were only a pound each and in new packaging. I thought why not give them another go. The new packaging is quite attractive. It has different bright coloured hand prints on a white background, a cucumber fresh scent and contains 64 wipes. I have had facial wipes before that had a cucumber scent and I remembered liking it but these wipes smell only very slightly of anything and I'm not entirely sure it's cucumber. They smell the same as they always have really. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad smell at all ... it's just not what I thought it would be. When opening the pack I pulled back the sticky tab and unfortunately the side of the pack ripped. I couldn't believe it. Thankfully I've got one of those baby wipe boxes to put wipes in so at least I know they won't dry up but it is irritating. Once these two packs are done I think I'll go back to my usual wipes. Admittedly they are a bit softer then I remember the ones with the bear print on them being but even so are still not as good as the competition.
Little swimmers:
Thinking about it I'm not sure I've ever seen any other brand of disposable swim nappy, but I have to admit these are brilliant. They fit really well which I find odd as the normal nappies aren't great in that department. They are easy to take off by just ripping the sides and as any other parent will know ... getting wet clothing off kids is a nightmare. Free Sample: http://www.huggiesclub.co.uk/littleswimmers/swim_n appy_in_action.aspx. I've seen many people use these swim nappies on their own which I have as well but in colder outdoor pools I put one on under my sons full body swim suit.
Just a little thing about taking babies swimming. I didn't take my elder son when he was a baby and it took him a little while to get over his fear of swimming but I take the little one and he happily crawls into the water on his own. I don't think it has anything to do with my younger one being a water birth baby but my other half thinks it has everything to do with that! Get those babies swimming! It works on confidence from a young age too which can't be a bad thing really can it!?
Huggies Club:
A good website for information about children at many different stages from pregnancy to toddlers. Stuff for mums and dads, competitions, discussion forums and so on. I am not a member myself but I know people who are and they get information and discounts via this website. http://www.huggiesclub.co.uk/newborn/home.
Pure & Natural:
Aloe & vitamin E, organic cotton, hypoallergenic, fragrance free and leakage protection. A new product from Huggies that's natural and gentle. Grab a free sample whilst available @ http://www.huggiespureandnatural.com/freesample.as px.
Body wash:
Calming Touch body wash comes in an easy grip bottle and a lovely Lavender & Chamomile scent. I'm in love. I have always been a Johnsons & Johnsons girl but I have added this into my bathroom collection. It sits on the side of the bath easier as the base is a bit smaller and is just a gentle to little eyes. I started the Johnsons bedtime routine using their Lavender wash and found one day that I was out. I wandered over to the local shop and they only had the Huggies stuff. For our bedtime routine I use whatever I see first at the store as I like both but I think I might favour the Huggies one a bit more due to the bottle shape and design.
Disposable changing pads:
Soft absorbents tops with leak-proof bottoms. Unfolded these pads are 2-ft square and folded about 4 x 4 inches and easily tuck away in the corner of the boot.
Brilliant to keep in the car for a number of reasons.
* Out of nappies and need to ensure the car seat doesn't get wee'd on whilst you drive home.
* They easily fit under car seat covers to stop any other spills ruining them.
* Muddy shoes? Pop them on one of these pads and worry not.
* Protect the car from muddy or wet buggy wheels.
* Oh yea of course ... use them to change a nappy!
Oh the many uses of the helpful changing pad! I can't remember how much these cost in the stores but I founf them on the internet for cheap. 5 packs of 8 pads for something like £12.
