*A REVIEW OF JOHNSON'S BABY OIL*

*THE COMPANY*

Johnson's make a variety of products including shampoos, gels and oils. All of these are designed to be kind to baby skin and so are popular for use among mums for their little ones! However, they can be used on adults too, in order to give soft skin just like a baby's.

I first came across this product through the television adverts years ago promising 'best for baby, best for you'. It has been around for as long as I can remember and is a staple in many households.

So one day, whilst out buying a new moisturiser, I decided to pick this up as well and see what improvement it could make to my skin.

*THE PRODUCT*

This is a simple body oil that claims to lock in 10 times more moisture than a regular body cream or lotion. It has no colour or discernable smell, and no frills.

*THE USER*

My own skin is naturally not too dry. I wouldn't call it baby soft but it's not scaly or anything! I wanted a product that could make my skin smoother and not as rough in dry patches such as on elbows and knees.

*AVAILABILITY*

This is such a common product that it can be found pretty much anywhere, from the standard beauty product shops such as Boots and Superdrug to supermarkets and the like.

You will never have a problem finding this!

*COST*

This is pretty damn good value. I paid £1.69 for a small bottle that has lasted for quite a while considering I use this every day!

*INGREDIENTS*

Mineral Oil and fragrance are added to the oil. Obviously if you find you are allergic to fragrances then use with caution.

The purpose of the mineral oil is to form a barrier on skin through which water can not escape. This forms the basis of the 'locking in' of moisture which softens the skin.

*PACKAGING*

When I said no frills, I meant no frills! As can be seen in the picture above, this is a plain, transparent plastic bottle with a pink cap lid and the name written on the front. There isn't much else written on the bottle except this.

I find the packaging to be a little bit dull. It's not exactly very exciting is it? I like my products to look good on my chest of drawers, and this just doesn't.

That said, at least you know that you aren't paying through the nose for fancy packaging. The simple bottle creates less waste than a bottle packaged in say a cardboard box as well. The boring bottle probably helps contribute to the oh so cheap price!

*THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE*

After a bath or shower, massage the baby oil into wet skin. Applying to wet skin locks in more moisture than if applied to dry skin and also looks less greasy.

Rub it in well because that will encourage circulation and bring blood to the surface of the skin which helps improve skin's appearance and condition.

A little can also be used on dry skin to give a sheen to skin. This is especially true if you have a tan. Beware though if doing this and avoid applying too much unless you want to look like a greased up wrestler!

*THE OIL*

The oil is clear, and very greasy! It doesn't really smell of much but there is an odour. It doesn't smell of anything when applied to skin though so don't worry about it interfering with perfumes or other smelly lotions!

It's very, very thin, and a little difficult to control. It's very easy to spill so be careful.

*USAGE*

It goes on nicely. On wet skin a little definately goes a long way and it is easy to apply over a large amount of skin just with one little drop of oil.

It makes your skin appear shiny and greasy when still wet but once skin has dried it is virtually impossible to tell there is any oil on it save for a light sheen which is actually quite nice. You don't feel greasy or slippery once skin has dried.

*RESULTS*

There is definately a noticeable difference. More so than I was expecting given the price and apparent simplicity of the product. I guess if something is around for as long as this stuff has been then it must be doing something right!

Skin definately felt softer and smoother to the touch. There was no change in the appearance of the skin and I wouldn't go as far as to say it had reversed all of the damage I have done to my skin over the years leaving me with baby soft skin, but I was impressed all the same!

*WOULD I RECOMMEND IT*

I would. For the price it is a really good product. It's a doddle to use, lasts for ages and gives really good results, quickly. My skin looked better after the first application. I was very, very impressed!

Summary: A high quality product for a very low price!

Far too greasy for me! Even the baby lotion brings me out in a rash! Susan

Johnson's baby oil is great for dry skin - despite it's 'slipperiness!' Good review :-)
