Advantages: Leaves a silky sheen, helps retain moisture.
Disadvantages: As a natural oily scent. Doesn't really treat dry skin.
Despite the name, it was not until my early 20s that I first tried this. The commercial always showed the effect of it giving gorgeous supple soft skin and I was curious to see the results it had compared with using an ordinary moisturiser.
What is it?
********
It is a mineral oil predominantly intended for babies, although adults can use it too. The oil is intended to nourish and moisturize to give soft, supple and silky skin.
On application:
************
This is very easy to use and most effective when applied liberally after a shower. The consistency is very runny and can get pretty messy, but after all, it is a bottle of liquid oil.
Effects.
******
For an oil, this surprisingly doesn't have that greasy feel to it and is very quickly absorbed. It leaves a nice silky sheen and my skin does look much healthier and supple - though baring in mind, with the massaging action these effects are the norm whether you are applying a lotion or not. However, my skin did feel quite comfortable throughout the day and of course retained a lot of moisture. Also, I noticed that my skin did still have that look of a silky sheen a few hours into the day.
Cost:
****
Usually costs about around £1.99 for a 300ml bottle and just a little more for the 500ml. A travel sized mini bottle is also available for those who would like to try it first.
Smell:
*****
This is an interesting one, there is no specific scent but you can just about make out a neutral aroma that is typical of an oily substance. It's a little discouraging as it is possible to get paranoid that people around you would be able to smell it., therefore it does put me off using it sometimes..
Afterthoughts:
************
Although a very good oil, I still alternate this with other moisturisers as I feel that the baby oil only has limited benefits. As an oil, I feel this functions more as a barrier to retain moisture - perhaps a preventative compliment to your skincare routine. I do from time to time get very dry skin and usually it's more useful for me to use something more specifically designed to feed, treat and repair it. The baby oil I would use only as an added extra every now and again.
Very basic, but still an asset.

Summary: A nice compliment for the skin.
