Advantages: Leaves baby's skin soft and smooth, so easy to apply, very cheap

Disadvantages: Stains if you spill it on clothes or bedding

I am so glad I was given the Johnsons Baby Bath Box while I was pregnant as I used most of the products within a week of my son's birth. I know it is recommended to use nothing but plain water and cotton wool for at least six weeks but we found that fortunately his skin is not in the slightest bit sensitive and I found the Johnsons Baby products to work really well for him.

The oil comes in a transparent bottle and it has a slightly pinky tinge. I started to use it because my son he had the peeling flaking skin that I am told all newborn babies get and it was awful to look at. I was advised to just rub olive oil into his skin but I really did not fancy the idea of slathering my child with a smelly food product, so I decided to use baby oil after his bath to try to clear his skin up. I massaged it in while his skin was still damp then wrapped him up tightly in a big fluffy towel to let it soak in properly. There was a huge improvement in the flakiness within 24 hours and it had completely cleared within a couple of days, leaving his skin so smooth and kissable, the way a baby's skin should be.

I also used it every night to massage his tummy when he suffered from colic and used it in our baby massage classes, as again I did not particularly want to use olive oil. He always smells lovely when he has it on and months later still has gorgeous skin.

I don't use it every night now because his skin is smooth enough without it, but I always go back to it if it looks a little bit dry. A little drop goes such a long way that the bottles last for ages and they are so cheap to buy anyway. I always buy some as part of a present for any of my pregnant friends as I think every mummy should have some of this! You can get it from the £1 shop, or it costs just over £2 for a bottle from Boots.

You can also buy a tiny little travel bottle which is fantastic for weekends away as it saves loads of space. This costs 99p from Boots.

Just be careful you don't spill any as it is terrible for staining!

Summary: A must have in any baby bath box
