Advantages: A good honest skin product

Disadvantages: none

A few days ago a copy of the Daily Express managed to find its way in through my door, well it was either that or nothing so I sat down with my coffee and started to browse through the pages.
The centre pages were linked to our health, so of course we have to read them to see if we have got anything that we didn't have before!
Then my eyes fell on these few words...ageing through the decades.
At eleven thirty in the morning with a cup of coffee in one hand and a custard cream in the other those were the last words I wanted to see!
So I hastily skipped through what I should have done in my thirties and forties and went on to read what I should be doing in my fifties.
According to the experts I should be exploring new ground, doing things that I have never done before and enjoying luxurious holidays!
If you count the odd visit to a stately home, a meal out and the odd cream tea or three I am not too doing badly.
But they advised that moisturising your skin was essential during your fifties due to the hormonal changes that are taking place, in fact ignore the advice at your peril!
I took a swift look into the bathroom mirror and a close examination of my skin ( whilst wearing my glasses ) only confirmed that the information in the article had hit the nail on the head.

I went off in search of a simple basic product that was oil based and would provide my skin with some much need moisturising.
I'm afraid to say that beauty treatment on a budget has to come into it, the shelves are heaving with beautiful pots of cream with hefty price tags attached to them.
Having used Nivea and Astral before I wanted to try a lighter product, Johnson's baby oil is light and has that unforgettable smell attached to it.
If it acts as a silky moisturiser for infants then why not for me?
The mineral oil acts as a barrier and helps to keep the moisture locked into the skin, it is mild and gentle and has been dermatologist and allergy tested.
A 300 ml bottle costs in the region of £2.50 and the oil would last for weeks.

One of the very first things that you notice as you pour a little of the oil into the palm of your hand is that the clear liquid doesn't feel oily. It smells lovely, just like new born babies should smell.
The oil sits in the palm of your hand until you rub it in, then it coats your hands with a soft but slightly greasy feeling.
It is easy to apply to your skin and I applied it to my face and neck area, the skin glistens and the remaining oil on your hands has to be washed off.
The baby oil sits on the top of the skin for a while and then starts to penetrate the skin, if you use foundation cream you may have to leave the oil to sink in for a few minutes before applying it.
Johnson's baby oil leaves the skin soft, in fact the skin is super-soft.
Maybe some wouldn't like the slight oily look it leaves behind but I don't mind that at all.

I am going to carry on using Johnson's baby oil, it may not have an expensive price tag or a designer name but it is a good simple and honest product.

Summary: An inexpensive way of moisturising

I only ever really associate the smell of baby oil with male strippers!
