Advantages: Cleared up my baby's cradle cap
Disadvantages: can be a bit messy
When I'm massaging my baby I tend to use Johnson's baby bedtime lotion rather than their baby oil. If I'm honest the reason for this is that I seem to make a real mess with the baby oil and get it everywhere.
Johnson's baby oil comes in a clear plastic 300ml bottle with a pale pink, flip top lid. The standard blue Johnson's label is on the front of the bottle. "The claim from Johnson's is that the oil is silky soft moisturiser for silky soft skin. Johnson's Baby Oil locks in up to ten times more moisture on wet skin than an ordinary lotion can on dry skin, leaving your baby's skin soft and smooth." The cost of the bottle is normally £2.09 but is often found in 3 for 2 promotions in boots. It is defiantly cost effective, I have had one bottle for 6 weeks and still have almost half left.
The oil is clear in colour, and has a mild aroma. It makes me think of that new baby smell that I just love. The oil is quite thin so put a towel down if you are not using it in the bath. It does take a couple of minutes to absorb into the skin, but does leave your baby and hands feeling very soft.
My baby had quite bad cradle cap (dry flaky skin on his head) until about 6 weeks ago. My GP told me the best thing for it was olive oil rubbed into the scalp during his bath. That evening slightly sceptically I rubbed a small amount of oil into his hair while in the bath. There did seem to be some improvement in his scalp, unfortunately he had a reaction on other areas of his skin where it must have got in the water.
I had used Johnson's baby oil on his skin before and knew that he was not allergic in any way to it, so the next day in the bath I rubbed a small amount of baby oil into his scalp. I did this every day for a week and there was not one flake left. This has now become a daily part of his bath routine. It doesn't leave his hair greasy as I though it might. His hair is soft and fluffy after use.
I have also used this oil on my skin, I have to use steroid cream for my psoriasis. I don't like to use steroid cream every day as this can be quite damaging long term. Instead I ccasionally I pour some baby oil into my bath, I don't use it often enough to know if it helps my skin. It defiantly doesn't make it any worse, unlike many products out there. The baby oil is very moisturising on my sensitive skin and I would recommend it
Summary: A gentle, moisturising baby oil
