Johnson's Baby Oil
Advantages: Moisturises and softens skin.
I buy baby oil quite a lot, I have tried a few cheaper brands too. I have 2 grandchildren now and so I am using a fair bit more than I used to and I also use it for myself and also for other purposes. This one is a very well known brand and one that has been around for many years and is such a good reliable one too.
This oil comes in a transparent plastic bottle with a screw off top. It is quite hard to open for the very first time because it has a child safety lock but once opened the next time it is absolutely fine to open and lock again. The top is a nice baby pink colour and the name is clear on the front, very easy to spot on the shelves. The bottle sits well on a surface because it has a nice flat base and is quite sturdy.
The oil is clear in colour and just looks like water inside the bottle. I can detect a slight fragrance with this oil but nothing too strong or over powering. It is however a nice mild fragrance and one that is quite pleasant. The oil is quite thick and not too runny. It has a kind of slight runny consistency and so caution should be taken while pouring it from the bottle because if it is squeezed too quickly it can tend to be quite messy. It is an oil that I would say is easy to get used to how hard the bottle is squeezed.
This oil locks in 10 times more moisture on a baby's more delicate skin. I use this oil for massaging my little grandson when he comes to sleep over at my home. He used to go to baby massage with my daughter on a regular basis when he was a tiny baby and he loved it and massaging baby oil or baby lotion into his skin just before bedtime is something that he has enjoyed all of his life. I tend to use this oil for when I have a little more time at bedtime and when he isn't too tired to enjoy the massage. I just pour a small amount into the palms of my hands and gently warm it a little before applying it to his skin. I just top up as I am going along but a little does go a very long way with this oil because it is very good quality. I apply it to his body while he is laying on the bed because that way any surplus oil does not make contact with my furniture or carpets etc.
It does however take a while to soak into the skin and so I just leave his naked until it has all absorbed into his skin. It does leave a nice sheen on the skin and is very oily and so if you do not have the time it is best to use a baby lotion instead. I often use this for removing make up too. I also use it on the backs of my hands, I just pour a small amount onto the hands and gently massage it into my skin. I do this on a regular basis to help soften my skin, especially now I am of my mature years and my skin is becoming more drier and also I need that little extra moisturising. Once a week I pour a little into an old basin and pour a small amount of salt into it and just pour a small amount of this oil over the top and use it to exfoliate the skin on my hands. The hands also need exfoliating in the same way as the face and body and so this is a good cheap way of doing this to help remove the dead skin cells so that my hands are in a better condition. I have used it a few times over my body in this way but I have not used this method for using on my face so far because I buy lots of facial products for exfoliating my face. But I have used it on my body when I have occasionally run out of a product and it has served me well.
I also use this oil for cleaning too, I use it to clean my stainless steel appliances approximately once a month. I just use a solution of white vinegar and water and wipe the appliances. I then buff it dry with a paper towel so that it is completely dry and then I apply a small amount of this oil onto a dry cloth or a sheet of kitchen towel and I just wipe over the appliances and buff it until it is dry. This helps stop streaks on them so that they just look nice and shiny and streak free. I use the same method for cleaning the sides of my stainless steel kettle. It helps make it look nice and shiny and very clean. It also helps for when any water is splashed onto the surface of an appliance or the kettle and it just runs from it more easily and then I just wipe it with a sheet of kitchen paper and it is nice and clean. I saw this method used many years ago on a television cleaning programme and I have used baby oil ever since for this purpose. Even the cheaper brands of baby oil work the same for cleaning.
The amount in the bottle is quite a lot and for a 500ml bottle I recently paid just £1 and so it is so affordable for lots of uses. It leaves my little grandson's skin extremely soft and moisturised and it leaves my skin perfectly soft too. It helps soften very dry skin and leaves it very soft to the touch. I highly recommend this oil. I think it is well worth the price and it is excellent value for money. It gives me all that I expect from a branded baby oil and I will continue to buy it in the future. It is also a good buy for a baby item if you know someone who is expecting a baby. It is a product that a mum to be would most definitely like to receive with any other baby products you want to give them. I bought lots of baby products for my daughter when she was pregnant and they were products that just help towards a start as a small gift idea and are very useful items for the new born baby. I have also used it a once on my little grandaughter's skin when she came to stay with us for the afternoon a couple of weeks ago. It left her skin nice and soft too but I only used a tiny amount on her skin because she wasn't staying too long and only a few hours but it dried in that time with a smaller application and left her skin nice and soft and she really enjoyed her baby massage. It also helps my hands while massaging it into her skin at the same time.
The bottle is also recyclable too.
I give this one 5 stars.
