Why this product
********************

Prior to my son's birth I stocked up on lots of lovely baby products to use. As this was pre baby we still had money so I was into buying brand names as I thought I wanted something I could trust. Johnson's is still probably one of the best know baby brands on the market and is highly advertised as being recommend by midwifes so I was sold. Now when my little cherub was born there really was not much hair on his head and we didn't start using shampoo on him till he has some curly golden locks when he was about 14 months old prior to this just water nearly 18 months later as he approaches 4 we have finally got through the stock pile I had of the original Johnson's shampoo. I have tried several supermarket brands but have found these seem to leave his hair smelling either not as nice or leave his hair feeling very dry. I have now moved on to trying the Chamomile version of Johnsons shampoo and love the different smell it gives but also the way it leaves my sons feeling nice and soft.

What is it?
***************
Johnson's baby shampoo with Chamomile is a shampoo that is suitable not only for babies but for all the family and Johnson's put the best for baby best for you all over their products. Usually it's just my son uses this but for the purpose of this review I thought I would try the shampoo too. Hubby is bald so he needs no shampoo baby or otherwise.
It is also marketed with Johnsons no tear ® formula which claims to be gentle to the eyes as pure water and ophthalmologist tested/ The inclusion of chamomile extract is thought to help keep, keep the light colour and shine of blonde hair.

The plastic recyclable bottle is clear with a green lid to distinguish it form the normal shampoo which has a yellow lid.

The actual shampoo is a lemony golden colour the liquid is transparent. The shampoo has a light chamomile scent to it which is reminiscent to me of freshly cut grass and summery days which I find a pleasant to my senses.

How to Use and our experience.
*******************************

Wet your baby's hair with warm water and gently massage in a dollop of shampoo I find that for my son's locks that a 10 pence size dollop is just right. This then lathers up well and you end up with a head full of bubbly locks then rinse the shampoo out. When dry his hair is beautifully soft just like fluffy duckling really and it leaves his hair always looking and smelling clean. When we have used this after swimming though the scent isn't very strong in the bottle the combination of the cleaning action of the shampoo and the scent gets rid of the chlorine swimming pool scent and leaves a lovely fresh scent behind instead. I find his hair which is very fine never gets into any tangles with this shampoo this was both prior to us having his hair cut and it having fine baby curls and now that he has a big boy cut the shampoo still leaves it tangle free which is then great for brushing after the bath.

As to does it keep his blonde hair looking light and shinny, all I can say his hair is still has pure blonde as the day he first got some real hair on his head. The colour is still a lovely light blonde rather than a dark blonde like my own. Now how much of this is down to the shampoo or his genes I don't know.

No tears formula whilst I haven't deliberately got some of this in either my son's eyes or mine own the time some has probably gone in when he hasn't closed his eyes firmly enough there has been no complaints of stinging and a quick splash with clean water is enough to remove any suds and there is no redness in his eyes from the shampoo.

Now as most parents will know washing hair is one of those jobs that can go either very well or be a scene for a horror film. The times it works well in our household is when it is a game. Since going swimming he is used to getting his hair wet and having water poured over his head with a watering can so we do that. Then we get him to put some of the bubbles on one of his bath animals and we rinse together.

My experience with this shampoo was again I only needed a small amount for my hair which is shoulder length. It lathered up very well and on rinsing produces no tangle which for me was a miracle I normally find one. My hair after using my normally condition was very soft and flyaway probably too fly away. Though I probably wouldn't use this myself in the long term I would not be averse to pinching his if I ran out of mine.

As you only need such a small amount for the your child's hair these bottles last for ages in our experience one bottle lasts about 2-3 months.

Comparing this to the original Johnson's baby shampoo I personally find there to be little difference in the cleaning abilities and how soft it leaves my son's hair feeling. However what I do notice as different is the smell and out of the two scents I prefer the lighter summery fragrance of the chamomile on my son now compared the original "baby" scent that the original shampoo gives. For our new addition that hopefully arrives safe and well in April I will be more than happy to use this on them as well.

Where from

This is available from most supermarkets and is often on baby offers for you to stock up on but if not on offer the full price is £3 given how long this last I think this is good value. However being a thrifty Yorkshire woman I tend to stock up on offers.
