Advantages: Softens my granddaughter's skin, smells glorious, lots of foamy bubble
Disadvantages: -----------
My daughter has always used Johnson's products for my granddaughters' and as they are so gentle I am prone to using them myself as my very sensitive skin often needs a respite from the highly scented bathing products I like to use.
I bought a bottle of Johnson's Bedtime Bath out of necessity as I was due to look after the now 20 month old baby for the week and Tesco for some reason had run out of the original Johnson's Baby Bath. I wasn't swayed by claims that it would help the baby sleep or even impressed with the fact that it is lavender scented, I just needed a bottle of baby bubble bath that day.
Nighttime came and I ran my granddaughter a warm bath, adding a generous squirt of the Bedtime Bath under both the warm tap and another when I turned the cold tap on. The scent is beautiful, it has a subtle lavender aroma which is by no means strong but definitely noticeable in the air around the bathroom, It's a young version of lavender too, I adore lavender in any shape or form and can honestly say this is a fairly natural scent which mingles well with the underlying scent of the lovely Johnson's product.
The bubbles created are light but fairly thick, it's more like a foam that a mass of bubbles but this is even better as far as my granddaughter is concerned as she can easily pick up handfuls of the bubbles and blow them around. I also noticed that the more she splashed the more bubbles appeared, this is true of any bubble bath I suppose but the effect was particularly impressive here.
I used both the water and foam to cleanse my granddaughter, the first time I used it she was around eight months old and had not long been crawling so obviously her hands and knees were particularly grubby. No problem though, a short soak in the water followed by a quick sponge down with these lovely lavender bubble was enough to remove every smear of grime from her body. She was well rinsed after playing for a while too and there was absolutely no residue left when I came to dry her off.
As expected for a Johnson's Baby product there was no bad reaction, no reaction at all actually apart from the fact that my granddaughter's skin was left soft and smooth with a glorious scent which was apparent even the next evening. The Bedtime Bath has Johnson's No Tears formula so my granddaughter enjoyed splashing in the bath until she was almost shivering and her fingers had turned into miniature prunes1
Did it help her to sleep though? I really cannot tell if I'm quite honest as my granddaughter has never napped during the day so tends to go straight to sleep as soon as she is put in her cot. However, a friend of mine swears by this baby bath as a means of settling her extremely mobile 18 month old grandson and tells me he visibly calms within an hour of having a bath in Bedtime Bath. Lavender is such a relaxing scent and is known in aromatherapy circles (and beyond) for its de-stressing and calming properties so I would never dismiss this claim from Johnson's as it makes such a lot of sense.
A 500ml bottle of Johnson's Bedtime Bath costs £2.53, which is the exact same price as the standard Johnson's Baby Bath so it will not hurt to give this version a try as I personally find the scent much more appealing and the cleansing properties are certainly as good as any other Johnson's product. For maximum benefit Johnson's recommend you use this in conjunction with other products in the Bedtime range, they would say this wouldn't they! But if you have a trying toddler then it's definitely worth trying the rest of the range as considering they are priced the same as the standard range then you have nothing to lose and it might just become your miracle product.
Summary: Even if it doesn't tame your toddler at least she'll smell nice!
