As every mummy or daddy with a new baby knows, a good night's sleep can be a thing of the past. My first child was a model baby; bath, milk and bed by 7pm, then slept until 7am! I thought the next time round would be much the same; hmmm, maybe I was a little too presumptuous!
OK, so my son (at time of writing is 4 months old) isn't a terrible baby. Up until he was 3 weeks old, I would have to breastfeed him to sleep at 9pm. My husband and I weren't getting any time to ourselves and I also wanted to get him into a good bedtime routine.
I went to Tesco and looked around for some bedtime bath products and came across the Johnson's range. I had already been using Johnson's anyway, but up until now didn't realise they hadn't a bedtime range. They were on 3 for 2, so I bought this body wash as part of the offer.
I used the body wash on my son at about 6.45pm (aimed for 7pm bedtime). It was so nice a soft, and smelled absolutely divine, with a hint of lavender. I only needed to use a tiny bit, and it melted into his warm skin very quickly. It lathers up well, but can be cold when you first squeeze it from the bottle, so rub it well between your hands first! After massaging my son using the Johnson's Bedtime Massage Cream, I put my son to bed. He was asleep by 7.15pm!
Whether it was the Johnson's bedtime routine that did it, or if it was just that he was tired, I have no idea, but it worked!
I still use the Johnson's bedtime products, and am on my second bottle of this body wash. It costs about £2.00 a bottle, and I always buy the 400ml (it also comes in 200ml).
My son now goes down every night at 7pm, and eagerly anticipates his nightly bath and massage.
My son used to sleep terribly at nightimes so my mum suggested I try and incorporate this into his bedtime routine as it claims to help babies sleep better.
I bought the bottle in 250 ml and it comes with a flip top lid and it stands upside down so the liquid is ready to be squeezed out. The bottle itself is purple plastic and has the image of a baby fast asleep on the front.
It works by using NaturalCalm- their blend of relaxing natural aromas to aid sleep.
The wash can be used on adults and children, the NaturalCalm will work on both.
The wash has a lovely baby smell, it's so hard to describe but it is nice! The fragrance was strong when washing and also once he was dried and in his pajamas I could still smell it.
The wash is to be applied onto the skin and I found it to be lovely and thick. It lathered up very well and I only needed a little bit to do the whole wash. His skn was nice and soft afterwards and he had no problems with it. However I did find that when I used this on my daughter it brought out her excema which she hadn't had since she was a baby. It was only in a few small patches on the elbows and the back of her knees but I know a friend who's child also suffered with a excema break out after using Johnsons products.
I did find that after including this wash into my sons bedtime routine he was a lot more relaxed. I also used the Johnsons baby lotion on him as well so it may have been a combination of the two. He seemed to settle a bit quicker at bedtime but I didn't see a difference in sleeping patterns once he had fallen asleep, he still woke up a lot.
I found this product to be useful for calming my child down before bed and the wash made his skin feel lovely and soft but I wouldn't buy it again on the recommendations that it helps baby to sleep better. it just relaxes them in the same way that Lavender does.
All in all i'd give it a 3 out of 5.
I have written before about my love of all things Johnsons when it comes to toiletries for my baby boy.
Although I have been using the bedtime bath since my boy was 6 weeks old, I had been using the traditional baby wash until I saw this bottle on offer and thought that I would give it a try. I was sold on the packaging (yet again) and the promise that it is proven to help babies sleep better. As I use the bedtime bath, I was hoping that using this bedtime wash at the same time would mean double strength sleepiness!
The 400ml bottle comes in one of those handy upside down shapes which are great for standing up on their own and squeezing out one handed. When the wash comes out of the bottle it is really thick and creamy - almost like a body lotion rather than a body wash. My boy loves sticking his finger into the wash as it so creamy.
When water is added to, a lovely frothy lather is created with lots of suds to cleanse and play with. When rinsed away and dried, my boys skin is soft and delicately fragranced.
The fragrance is of course why Johnson's market this product as part of its sleep better range - a mix of lavender and chamomile to relax and get little one ready for bed.
Well, I must admit it does smell lovely, but I don't buy into the fact that it helps my boy relax - maybe for some babies, but my boy loves playing in his bath so much, it doesn't ever really relax him!
At £2.65 for a 400ml bottle it is similiar in price to the other body washes in the Johnson's range. It is currently on offer in Boots at 2 bottles for £4 and you can also stock up when Sainsbury's have the half price baby event.
I bought a 400ml bottle of Bedtime Moisture Wash from Boots a fortnight ago, and it worked out at £2 a bottle as there was an offer on where you could get 2 bottles for £4. The normal price is £2.53 for 400mls.
It comes in a squeezy bottle which stands on end. It does not look like the picture, as this is a 300ml bottle I believe. The shape of the 400ml bottle is different but the colour is the same, and it is the lovely lilac colour which represents products in the Johnsons Bedtime range. It contains lavander and camomile and claims to aid a better night's sleep.
First of all, let me say that I really like this product. It is by far the nicest smelling baby wash I have ever come across and for that reason alone I will continue to purchase it. It smells so good I actually use it on myself regularly, rather than my own Sanctuary products! What I love is that it has a gorgeous, relaxing smell but it does not smell strongly of lavander, as I really hate that scent. It smells very soft and delicate rather than the heavy, perfumed scent you'd expect from a lavander based product and I really like that.
The bottle would be better if it was a pump action dispenser like the Johnsons Top to Toe Wash, because holding baby with one hand and flipping open the bottom and squeezing the wash out is just not practical. It is easier now as my son is 9 months old and sitting himself but with a tiny, immobile baby I think it would be a nightmare if you were doing bathtime alone.
As for the claims to aid sleep, I found this to be nonsense. I have not met anyone who has actually found this to be true. It does not help my son relax, as he loves to play in the bath and no scent will persuade him to change that habit. I have noticed no difference in his sleep patterns and he is not more relaxed after using this product. It is a lovely smelling baby wash and nothing more.
It does leave his skin smelling gorgeous, soft and smooth - it just doesn't make him sleep better.
I have rated it 3*. As a body wash it would be 5*, and that is all I buy it as, but I think because of its claims to aid restful sleep it would be unfair of me to not take into consideration the fact that it fails to live up to this.
My kids adore this product, even now that they are 2 and 4. We have used it as part of our bedtime routine since they were both tiny babies, and it definitely helps calm them both down and get them ready for sleeping. The product has a gorgeous lavender smell, since lavender essential oil has been proved in adults to stimulate sleep. It also helps clean those messy little bodies once they start to get into everything and they love having bubbles all over their bodies, so bathtime is a real treat.
A great product at a good price - and you can often find it in Boots etc on a 3 for 2 etc, to make those pennies stretch a little further. Really feels like a premium baby product without having to pay the extra.
IF you have a baby struggling to sleep, definitely try adding this to your night time routine.
To help your baby get a good night's rest, pour Johnson's Bedtime Moisture Wash? onto your hand or a soft washcloth and gently massage onto her skin. Lather, rinse, and enjoy this special moment together.
