Advantages: they are very good quaility, have many uses

Disadvantages: the price

I always used to buy these in Boots when I lived with my Mum and Dad, knowing that my Dad wouldn't use anything different. When I moved out however I wanted to save money in every way that I could so I decided to try cheaper versions of cotton buds. I purchased a pack of over 100 in wilkinsons for just 69p! But I then realised that sometimes you really do have to pay the extra money to get the quality you are looking for.

Johnsons is a reputable name selling a variety of products from shampoos and body lotions to of course cotton wool and cotton buds. You can notice the difference in quality just by looking at Johnsons cotton buds and a cheaper brand. Johnsons cotton buds come in a more appealing tub with Johnsons written along the front in their fancy blue font, so not hard to miss or confuse on the shelves. The buds themselves are blue sticks, with a cotton bud at each end. The buds of cotton are quite thick and chunky. Whereas the cheaper brand I bought had extremely thin white sticks which snapped so easily, and the buds on each end were thin, so thin that I may as well have tried cleaning my ears with the stick itself as there was hardly any cotton on them. The cotton that was on them was flaking away, yes flaking into pieces off the stick.

Because of the quality of the cotton on the sticks (100% cotton as it states on the tubs) these cotton buds are gentle on the skin. Now I know not everybody agress with using cotton buds to clean ears, but so long as used correctly and with care, they shouldn't do much damage. I don't just use them for my own personal care though I always use them with my twin boys. I have used them since they were born to help clean them in awkward places such as in between their fingers and toes, behind their ears, and applied baby lotion to very small dry patches. I also use them to remove nail varnish off my nails (with nail varnish removers). I also use these when applying my mascara and eyeliner, as I tend to be very messy and leaves smudges here and there, I always need something small enough to wipe the smudges away, and these are just right to get underneath my eyelashes and wipe away the mess I've made without messing up the make up I want to leave on my eyes.

You can buy these in your local supermarkets, or of course Boots which is where I purchase mine for under £2 for a tub of 200 cotton buds! If you are one to buy cotton buds for whatever reason I definitely reccomend these rather than opting for a cheaper brand as the quality really is there.

Summary: brilliant cotton buds which can be used for many things
