Advantages: They look pretty
Disadvantages: Don't cleanse well, slimy, they don't do what they're supposed to
My daughter always uses Johnson's or Pampers baby wipes for my granddaughter and when I had her for the weekend recently she sent a packet of wipes that I had never seen before, Johnson's Extra Protection which have added aloe and willow herb to keep your baby's skin in perfect soft condition.
The main visible difference with these wipes is that they have green stripes going down the wipe, these stripes are the aloe and willow herb protective cream and give the wipe a very attractive and unusual appearance.
However good they look though, I don't like them. Yes, they are kind to my granddaughters bottom when she has her nappy changed but she is fortunate in rarely suffering from nappy rash or spots anyway so I wouldn't buy these wipes for this specific reason as her usual Johnson's wipes and the Sainsbury's Little Ones wipes that I buy are perfect for changing time and keep her bum lovely and smooth.
The awful thing about these Extra Protection wipes is the addition of the cream which has made them slimy and very hard to handle. I find one Johnson's wipe is all that is needed to clean a dirty bottom as they cleanse well and are large enough to be folded, but these wipes are hard to fold because the sliminess makes them slightly slippery which means they never seem to crease exactly where you want them to. And anyone who has ever changed a nappy will know that there is an art in folding the wipe so that it doesn't spill, well, poo onto the changing mat!
For this reason I have to use two of these, one to clean my granddaughter and a second to ensure I haven't missed any in my efforts to keep the mess away from my hands. Another thing is that the wipes don't clean half as effectively as plain wipes, I like Johnson's because the cotton feel of the wipe will absorb some of the baby poo and the rest will kind of cling to the wipe which aids the whole cleansing process. This doesn't happen with this Extra Protection variety as the strange slimy feel only serves to smear the mess around my granddaughters bottom, which is a particularly bad thing when changing a baby girl as any poo left in various creases can cause irritation and infection if not cleaned properly.
Having said that, even when my granddaughter just has a wet nappy I find these wipes bad. It's the feel of them, they feel too slimy and greasy to have any real cleansing effect and for this reason I haven't even bothered using them as face wipes and I think I'll end up binning them unless I can find a use for them around the house. I don't even find them particularly moisturising so what the purpose of adding the stripes of cream was I don't know!
One good thing about these is that they never dry out, I left the plastic flap open for a couple of days and when I went back to the wipes it was only the top two which had lost some of their moisture but they were still damp enough for use. I think subconsciously I'd left them open on purpose to give me an excuse to put them in the bin when I found they'd dried out as I felt a pang of irritation when I picked them up to find they were still wet!
A packet of 64 Johnson's Extra Protection wipes costs £2.33 from Sainsbury's, the reason I ended up with this packet was because my daughter bought them while they were on BOGOF and she didn't particularly like them either. She obviously gets through wipes much quicker than I do so she's already finished her packet and gone back to her usual plain Johnson's wipes as they clean better, have a much nicer texture and are cheaper too!
Summary: Possibly the worst Johnson's product ever.
