Coming out of hospital I was reminded by the midwives to keep my caesarean wound clean and dry amongst other things such as wearing loose clothing. When it comes to cleanliness I shower at least twice a day (or a bath and a shower) and I wanted to use something that was kind and gentle on my skin and definitely something that wouldn't irritate the wound. In one of the many Bounty bags I received in hospital there was a travel/ sample size bottle of Johnsons Head to Toe Baby Wash which is ideal for a baby's delicate skin and as Johnsons put it "bathe your baby in pure gentleness" - surely this would be suitable
** What Johnsons Say **
"We've taken love and gentleness and bottled it. JOHNSON'S® HEAD-TO-TOE® Baby Wash is an ultra-mild cleanser for your baby's skin and hair that's gentle enough even for newborns."
** The Product **
Johnsons Head to Toe Baby Wash is a bath wash designed to be milder than baby soap and is soap and dye free, hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. It has the No More Tears formula which means the baby wash is as gentle to the eyes as pure water. It is ideal to use at bath times but is also great for using when you top and tail a baby in between there next baths as it is so gentle.
** Packaging **
The travel size bottle is just a miniature version of the full sized bottle. The bottle is the usual shape of most Johnsons shampoos/ washes and is a very pale yellow colour but the bottle is still clear so you can see the contents. On the front of the bottle is the trademark Johnsons logo and there logo for how mild the product is (shown by the pink ribbon) and also the logo for no tears (a little pink raindrop). On the back is the usual blurb about ingredients and what the product actually is.
** How to Use **
This really is the easy bit. For myself I just poured it under warm running water and then applied a small amount to a sponge. But for my daughter I simply pour a small amount onto her soft baby sponge and massage it gently onto her skin and hair. The baby wash lathers up incredibly easy once diluted but it doesn't provide frothy bubbles it gives of a soft, rich white lather which soon disappears once it hits the water.
There is no real fragrance to this wash which for me and for my daughter is perfectly fine as it seems to be free of everything I doubt they would want to add any synthetic fragrances to the wash. It has mediumish consistency which isn't too runny where it slips straight down the plug hole but it isn't too thick either where you struggle to get it out of the bottle! The liquid is a very pale yellow colour and is crystal clear. I've found that you only need to use a small amount to get it to lather up easily but as I said above you wont get bubbles!
I've now been using it for 3 weeks and now on my daughter the past week and I've found that the baby wash is gentle enough for me to feel completely cleansed and clean. As for my daughter her delicate skin needs something incredibly mild and this has not irritated her skin whatsoever. She comes out the bath smelling fresh and clean. The No Tears certainly works as when wiping her face or sometimes when the water runs down over her face she isn't bothered by it in the slightest which is a good thing.
Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, PEG-150 Distearate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Chloride, Polyquaternium-10, Fragrance, Quaternium-15, Citric Acid
** Price and Availability **
Johnsons Head to Toe Baby Wash is available at all good supermarkets and stores such as Boots and obviously readily available online. I have now bought a full sized bottle (500ml) for £3.59 and due to only needing to use a small amount I know this bottle will last me quite a while.
** Overall **
A great baby wash which is even suitable for newborns because it is so mild and gentle. For both me and my daughter this is cleanses well without drying out the skin. It is nice to know that my daughter's delicate skin is well cared for. I would definitely recommend it to all with or without children.
Okay so the Johnson+Johnson disclaimer reads that 8 out of 10 midwives use JOHNSONs baby on their own children, so would that make you trust their brand when it comes to your own child or even yourself?
So I dont have children myself but I still think that I am qualified with writing a review when it comes to Johnsons top to toe wash, as I frequently have my six nieces and nephews (all under 10) over to stay and bathe them, very frequently using this mild and gentle wash.
The Infant Test
So mild is this wash that its claimed to be as soft on your babies eyes and skin as water is. It is dye-free and hypoallergenic making it the perfect product to use even on your newborn baby. When bathing children as young as 6 months to 10 years I can stand proud when saying that all of the above is true. You can lather it up like any ordinary soap based product to cleanse the delicate skin of any child. Its also multi-purpose and can be used to wash your childs hair . I find that it cleans an infants hair as well as any shampoo and leaves it tangle free why pour a chemical ridden product onto your childs very delicate scalp when you can use a single product to do the whole job. One of my nephews suffers from cradle cap so to wash his full head of hair with a shampoo product would naturally irritate this, but again Johnson top-to-toe wash is so mild it does the job without irritating it.
Being PH balanced and milder than any baby soap, it is to be applied direct to the skin using 1 or 2 pumps from the pump type dispenser bottle this is enough to give your little angel an all over clean literally from top-to-toe. It rinses off the skin easily and it doesnt leave behind any residual marks.
The scent of Johnsons top-to-toe wash is so mild its actually relaxing for both infant and adult alike. Perfect for use before bedtime it wont over stimulate your babies senses to awaken them more than naturally need be. It is perfect for the dry skin that some children suffer from as its non-drying and non-irritating yet will cleanse enough to get rid of the dirt that may cause that irritation in the first place. I have used this product to wash all six of my nieces and nephews sometimes as frequently as on a daily basis, this may not always be from just normal everyday dirt build-up but from those many accidents that children can have and it has never ceased to impress me with its gentle yet effective cleaning power.
The Adult Test
Maybe its the overuse of perfumes in other products that denies us adults of this strangely comforting scent of Johnsons products but Johnsons baby Top to Toe wash is also excellent for adults. I have very sensitive skin and find that using daily shower gels or bubble baths can irritate what is already very dry skin. I came to the conclusion of what is good enough for a baby is good enough for me.
I have my normal showering routine; it normally consists of washing my hair then washing my skin. I like to be thorough when cleansing my body and find that I can use Johnsons baby top-to-toe wash on all of my body parts without causing any irritation whatsoever. I simply squirt 2 or 3 pumps of this wonderfully mild smelling wash into the palm of my hand and then apply it directly to my skin I lather it up and rinse it off, Im then left with squeaky clean, yet irritation free skin, all the whilst it being soft and smelling sensationally comforting. It really does work wonders on both older skin types as well as on infants. I am very surprised that the majority of adults apply chemical ridden shower/bath products to what is their very delicate skin, rather than use these milder products, as like I said before whats good enough for baby is surely good enough for me!
I frequently use this product to remove make-up residue after a heavy day, it doesnt dry the skin on my face out unlike most soap-based products do and I find that it cleanses deeply enough to remove all traces of dirt build-up on my skin. Whats even better is that I even have my boyfriend using it now - he is so impeccably impressed with its gently effective cleaning power. If you want to truly care for your own skin as well as your childs, then I really do recommend you at least trying this wash, especially on the more delicate areas of your body, I am sure you will soon have the whole family using it.
I mainly use this product when showering but have used it in the bath as well, it offers to be a relaxing experience after a hard days grind. Its soothing scent is relaxing on the mind and helps calm your senses. It is certainly a great alternative to those strong bath products and oils which I have fallen fowl to so many times before. I simply squirt one or two pumps under warm running water and hop in, I find that it foams enough to enjoy a lovely soothing bubble bath.
The scent itself is a hard one to describe; it smells sensually soft and has a light comforting aroma to it, it doesnt smell of anything particularly distinctive so unfortunately I cant give you more of an idea, but I do suggest that next time youre in a supermarket, you pick up and unscrew the bottles top to have a sniff of it - I am sure that, that will be enough to lure you into buying it.
Johnsons top-to-toe wash is available in a 300ml or 500ml pump dispenser type bottle and is available from most major supermarkets. It is commonly shelved within the baby product department of a store so is easy found in its slightly transparent baby yellow bottle. Prices dont vary massively depending on where you shop, so you are looking at paying around £2.00 for a 300ml bottle or around £3.00 for a 500ml bottle. I have had the same 500ml bottle for 6 weeks now and have used it at least twice daily, so its working out to be very long lasting at a very reasonable cost.
Having used this product on both my brothers and sisters children as well as myself, I will honestly say I have never come across a product on the market which can even remotely compare to this. The simplicity of having an all-in-one product to make bath time for my nieces and nephews more enjoyable and less hassle is itself worth its weight in gold. To also have that added bonus of the product being effective enough to use on myself whilst having fallen very much in love with the sensual aroma and feeling it leaves behind on my skin, is something that I feel cannot be given anything less than a full recommendation of 5 *S*T*A*R*S to you my fellow consumers.

It was my daughter's first birthday and even at this tender age she got one of those gifts you always get but don?t particularly love. Yup she got a set of smellies. Being only a baby though she got a set of Johnson?s smellies and they actually came in quite useful! This is when I first discovered Johnson's baby top to toe wash! I had never before heard of this product, nor could I ever recall seeing it on the shops shelves so maybe at the time (about a year ago) it was a fairly new product. So Beth is happily splashing away in the bath and I think its about time I actually get her washed! I open the aforementioned birthday gift set and grab out the bottle marked ?Baby top to toe wash? It has a mellow yellow top and the content of the bottle is transparent. There is a large ?No more tears? Logo on the front of the bottle, also it says ?new baby soft formula? and ?Gently cleans skin and hair, milder than any baby soap? I have a read of the info on the back of the bottle and find that it can be used as a bubble bath, a baby soap, shampoo and it can also be applied directly to the skin! It is: *Non-drying and Non-irritating. *Soap free *Milder than any baby soap *PH balanced *Gentle cleansing for babysoft skin (Or so it says on the back of the bottle!) So I then open the bottle, the cap is tight fitting and a bit of effort is needed to release it. (Definitely a good thing with Beth?s wandering fingers!) When pouring the see through liquid onto my fingers it is quite fast flowing, not terribly thick. I rub it into my hands and then onto Beth's wet skin. It rubs in easily and lathers up really well. You really don?t need much to get good coverage. It smells lovely and fresh, it is not like other Johnson?s products which I find a good thing, though it still has a hint of that baby powder
smell about it. I find the smell to be like lilies, quite floral but light and definitely not cloying or overly perfumed. It is very mild and leaves Beth's skin lovely and soft after we dry her off and doesn?t show any signs of irritating her skin at all. It is also great as a shampoo, it is so mild it doesn?t hurt Beth?s eyes if any accidentally splashes her face and it makes her fine blonde hair lovely, shiny and soft. Now I have to confess here that I too often use Beth?s top to toe wash on myself, it leaves my skin lovely and soft and it smells delicious! I also just tried rubbing it directly into my skin and surprisingly enough it works! It takes a lot of rubbing before it will absorb into the skin, and it foams up a little but once it is fully absorbed it does make my skin feel softer and more refreshed. It works really well as a bubble bath; you need the smallest drop to make lots and lots of bubbles! Now to the nitty gritty. I picked up a new 300-ml bottle today and it cost me £1.99 in Superdrug. Boots has the same size bottle but it costs £3.25 there. This may sound expensive but a bottle tends to last me somewhere between 6-8 weeks because you need such a little amount of it! So really when you think about it is good value for money because you don?t need to buy bubble bath and Shampoo as well, this body wash does it all! Beth and I both give this product 5 stars out of five! What more of a recommendation could you possibly want! I’m not really the type to get in lather over a toiletry product, but I do want to tell you about a product I’ve been using on my kids for over 2 years, Johnson’s baby ‘Top-To-Toe’ wash. What The Manufacturers Say; ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The product is “A mild all over baby cleansing wash. It is perfect for direct application to skin, for use as a foaming bath and also for washing baby’s hair. The unique ‘No More Tears’ formula is as gentle to the eyes as pure water.” It’s claimed that the product is non-drying and non-irritating, soap free, milder than baby soap, pH balanced, and offers gentle cleansing for baby soft skin. With so many claims, I thought it was about time I properly evaluated the product in the name of Dooyoo consumerism, so pay attention, here comes my report. Testing Circumstances! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It’s 17:00hrs, 2 hours to go until the kids go to bed. It’s the time of day when parents of young children start to feel that weariness creep up on them, that, ‘If I can just make it through the next 2 hours, I promise to give myself a nice glass of chilled Chardonnay’. Kitty, the 11 month old, is on the kitchen floor, doing a great job of sweeping up the dog hairs with her legging covered knee caps, as she crawls round and round in circles, eventually homing in on her target, the dog’s bowls. With no time to stop her, she’s in there like a flash, finger’s seeking out soggy discarded dog biscuit, which she tosses into her mouth with glee, before letting her finger’s ‘dive’ into the water bowl for a quick frolic, which result in water going every where. Retrieving the half chewed biscuit, and with barely time to extract her from her water play, I plonk her on the other side of the safety gate. Now she is in the dinning room, her eager little eyes are da
rting around, looking for further mischief. Meanwhile, I realise my 2 year old is missing, and spot the back door is ajar. Reaching the patio, and seeing the Guinea Pig hutch door is open, I am filled with dread; Fergus is in the flipping hutch again! Pulling him out, I accidentally bang his head of the roof of the hutch, its proportions are more Cavy than our own species, and I wonder what the nursery staff will make of his latest bruising. Having picked the Lilliputian sized droppings off the palms of his hands, and dusted the sawdust off his kneecaps, I decide that bath time should be immediately re-scheduled for the next 5 minutes. The Tests Involved ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ‘Top-To-Toe’, comes in a handy pump dispenser bottle, so it’s easy to squirt just the amount you need into the bath water to get some seriously frothy bubbles on the go. Once both the kids are in the water, you can then use more to wash them and shampoo their hair. If you use a sponge, you really only need a small amount, but if you do over do it, no worry, it’s as mild as Johnson’s say it is. Of course in my haste to get both kids washed and hair shampooed, and because I am a very bad mother indeed, some of the suds go in Kitty’s eyes. I wait for the resulting scream, but nothing happens. All I get is a frown and a few blink. This stuff really is mild! Tackling Fergus’ hands, I notice that they are already spotless from a few minutes play in the water. The product does not claim to be anti-bacterial, but what’s wrong with soap and hot water? Next it’s time to wash his hair, I know he will scream whether he gets suds in his eyes or not. He absolutely hates it, and there’s no point trying to say that a product his mother likes to use on him will make any difference, but it does get the job done. I find that the kids need their hair washing because they have jam, Marmite, or unspeak
able matter in it, not because it’s greasy or dirty all over, therefore, you need a mild shampoo that’s not going to dry their scalps out. ‘Top-To-Toe’ fits the requirement just fine. Results ~~~~~~~ It’s now 18:30hrs, just another half hour to go. Tea, sausages and beans, is over. The remains of Fergus’ are sitting in a bowl on his little table. We have managed to get through tea time without spilling too much food, getting most of it in the right place, and avoiding Kitty’s usual trick of running her sticky finger’s through her hair. I am out in the kitchen, preparing beakers of warm milk, and thinking about which storybooks I’ll read to them tonight. Those little angels, just next door, are all ready for bed, wearing clean pyjamas, and smelling all scrubbed and scrumptious. ‘Top-To-Toe’ has a wonderful clean fruity scent, which makes the kids so kissable! Their hair is nearly dry, and a soft sheen is developing nicely. I can send my little ‘rays of light’ off to bed knowing they are fully cleansed, in the knowledge that they will awake the next day, clean and ready to go. Suddenly I hear a crash. Racing into the dining room, I am confronted by carnage. Kitty, in trying to pull herself to stand against Fergus’ table, has pulled the whole lot over. The remaining sausages and beans have pebble dashed her face, and splattered her once gleaming locks. Fergus is crouching next to the dog, hand feeding her remnants of sausage from the floor, whilst the other dog sets about licking the tomato sauce from Kitty’s face. I take a deep breath, visualise that glass of wine. So close, and yet…so far. Back to the bathroom. Turn on the taps. Another couple of squirts of ‘Top-To-Toe’, and a feeling of de’javou . The only positive thing is that a) The kids hair and skin won’t get dried out from another wash, b) The bath
won’t need cleaning now! Conclusion ~~~~~~~~~~ If you have daily challenges that require mild yet gentle cleansing, this product could be the one for you. If you have 2 naughty, mucky little sprogget’s, don’t waste any more time. Go and get some. If you have all the above, with the resulting high blood pressure and frayed nerves, go and take a look at the wine section on Dooyoo, and pick yourself a good’n, it may be more use to you than a baby body wash!
It's statement on the bottle is that it is milder than any other baby soap. I have to say, I would agree with this statement. It was so easy to use. Just a little squirt on wet baby (poor Holly), a little rub, and you had a lovely creamy lather that rinsed of with ease. It can also be used a a shampoo which I did. I would have to give it top marks for convenience. It was much easier than bathing using seperate soap and shampoo, and being a new Mum, I still don't seem to have the knack of keeping the soap out of the eyes whilst holding a slippery baby yet, so from experience, I can promise you it does have the Johnsons "no tears formula" It did not leave her skin dry at all, but lovely, soft and clean smelling. There were a few minor disadvantages however that I would like to share with you. I had actually rubbed baby oil on her head to get rid of a bit of cradle cap. The problem I had with this was that it was SO mild, it did not manage to wash all the oil out of her hair. So on these occasions, I would probably still wash her hair with shampoo. The other little thing was the smell. One of the main reasons I buy Johnsons is because of how nice it smells, although you could catch a familiar whiff, it was not really the smell of the other products in the range, I am assuming because it is a very mild product. However, it was pleasant all the same and left her smelling really "cleaned". I would definatly continue using it as it does not dry her skin at all, which soaps have done in the past, and it is really quick and easy to use which gives you more time for playing. It cost £1.99 for 300mls
Warm water and a soothing touch-bathtime is a wonderful time to bond with your baby. Pour Johnson's Head-to-toe Baby Wash on a soft washcloth and gently massage onto her skin and hair. Lather, rinse, and enjoy this special moment together.
