Advantages: Struggling to think of any....

Disadvantages: Too thick & globby. Poor dispenser. Not very moisturising.

I always buy branded products, mainly Johnson's, for my baby. I figure you usually get what you pay for, & I'm not prepared to compromise where my baby is concerned.

I know babies frequently suffer dry skin in the early days, so I plumped for Johnson's Softwash Extra Care, which aswell as containing 1/3rd baby lotion also contains a dash of baby oil. It is one of the more expensive baby wash products, at £2.15 for a 400ml bottle. (Price correct @ June 2009).

The bottle is one of those 'upside down' versions, for ease of dispensing the product. All well & good, but I do find that the body wash has a tendency to drizzle out before I can get it clicked shut, & I am left with it oozing down the side of the baby bath.

The product is not very scented - I know this is a good thing where babies skin is concerned, but it would be nice if it had a bit more of a 'babyish' aroma to it (especially since we are advised not to use talcum powder on babies now - they never seem to smell like babies anymore!). The wash itself is very thick, and sticks to babies skin in globs. I apply it with a soft baby sponge, & it is very hard to wash my baby all over with it. Rinsing it off is also very hard - the globs are very persistent!

I can't say I've noticed that it's any more moisturising than any other product. Even though my sons skin is past the worst of the newborn dryness, I still have to apply olive oil on his legs to keep the skin moisturised.

I haven't tried this product on myself, so can't comment there. But as ever, Johnson's claim that baby softwash is 'best for baby, best for you'....

Personally, I won't be buying this again. Instead I will opt for the 'top to toe' wash which is a thinner, easier to use product (and can also be used on babies hair).

Summary: Stick to a cheaper wash & combat dryness with olive oil.

A nice review, I quite like this for myself but have never used it for my granddaughter.
