Advantages: practical and easy to use

Disadvantages: fairly expensive

Toilet training is a big step for any child and obviously some take to it quicker than others. Most people start off encouraging their little ones to use a potty before moving on to the big toilet! Once my daughter was trained using the potty she was very happy to use this although for some reason she was quite reluctant to then move on to using the toilet, especially at home.

I had seen Kandoo wipes in quite a number of her small friends' houses and she was always very happy to use the toilet in those places, so I thought it would be worth buying some to use at home and to make a special fuss of putting them in the toilet! Also, we kept saying that big girls use the toilet rather than the potty, so I made a point of saying that these were big girls' wipes as oppose to the 'baby' wipes I was using on her little sister.

One of the really nice things about Kandoo wipes is that they come in their own attractive dispensing box. It is mainly purple with a small green lid that flips open. On the front of the box is also a picture of a very cheeky looking green frog with a thought bubble showing how you can throw these wipes down the toilet! The box has a little green plastic button which when you push down the lid flips open. This is fairly easy to manipulate for any child who is about two years and above which is very good because one thing you want to foster during toilet training is independence so it would be no good if Mummy had to come and open the box every time.

Once the plastic lid is opened, your child can pull just one wipe from the box. The wipes are arranged in the usual concertina fashion and kept moist by being in plastic packaging which has a small hole at the top which allows the wipes to be pulled through.

The wipes are all wonderfully moist and very gentle on the child's skin - much more so than even the gentlest toilet paper. Also it definitely makes it easier to wipe away any mess and come out clean. Obviously as with all things you will need to show your child how to do this for themself, but with some practice it will definitely become easier.

Also, because of the way the packet is designed so that your child can only pull out one wipe at a time, it means that you do not have the problems you might have with toilet rolls when they tug it to try to pull away a couple of pieces and before they know it half the roll hasbecome unravelled!

Another advantage to these wipes is that it is perfectly OK to flush them down the toilet unlike a lot of baby wipes. This means that your child gets into the habit of doing this for him or herself and you do not need to worry about disposing off it elsewhere.

Kandoo wipes can be found in a number of supermarket and chemists. I usually buy mine from Boots.com where the wipes tub with 60 wipes in it can be bought for £3.49 and you can also buy refill packs of 55 wipes for £1.99. This means that after you have bought your first dispenser you only ever need to buy the refill packs which make it considerably less expensive!

And in the end, did they help persuade my daughter to use the toilet rather than the potty? They certainly did and she is now Little Miss Independent going to the toilet on her own, using her wipes and then flushing them down the toilet! And, of course, she really loves the cheeky froggy on the box!

Summary: A great motivator when toilet training!
