Kandoo Children's Toilet Wipes
Advantages: Good for the whole family from toilet training onwards
Disadvantages: Some adult supervision still wise
This is one of those products which seems to get very mixed reviews. I think this has a lot to do with individual children's experiences, as toddlers are not particularly known for following instructions or believing anyone else knows best!
Definitely aimed at the toilet training market, these are easy to use flushable wipes designed to help a child wipe his or her bottom effectively and independently. They come with a plastic tub with a big push button to open, and are dispensed one at a time like tissues. The tub is purple and green with a frog and is quite appealing to children. The wipes smell refreshing - the original ones smell of melon, and I think there's also a forest fruits type scent too. They are also available in a 'sensitive skin' version. These are from Pampers, so a trusted brand.
We did use them at that toilet training stage of development, although unlike the child in the admittedly annoying advert, my son was not at all keen on the independence thing - he always wanted someone else to do the dirty work for him, bellowing "I've finished" to summon whichever 'slave' was on duty ... ! I know many children do always want to do things for themselves though, and these wipes are great there - although depending on the child, some adult supervision might still be wise. We definitely found they were easier for the children to manage than traditional toilet roll alone, and that is really how they should be judged I feel.
They are widely available, often on offer and you can buy the refill packs separately so only need one of the plastic tubs.
The point I really want to make here though is that use is not confined to toddlers! We were at the time also buying Andrex moist toilet wipes until one day I had an epiphany, realising the Kandoo ones were perfectly fine for all the family! I'd assumed they would be more expensive - but no, probably partly because they are often on offer, Kandoo came out cheaper. I did a quick comparison on the Tesco website today, and 3 refill packs of Kandoo (55 sheets in a pack) costs £3.49, whereas even on a 2 for £2.50 offer, the Andrex ones (42 sheets in a pack) are definitely more expensive. If you have older children or no children at all, and don't particularly want a Kandoo tub in your toilet, you could I guess always use a different tub - no one need know what refills you use!
I would give them 4 stars - we have found them very good, and will always choose them when on offer, but the supermarket own brands are also fine and do of course come in cheaper ithout the offers. They could be a mite stronger - but then they probably wouldn't be as soft!
Summary: Worth a try even if you don't have kids
