Classic kooshies have a waterproof layer built in around the outside but I found them not to be sufficient in keeping my little one dry, I used the waterproof wraps by kooshies or an alternative from another company. Yes they do seem to be a little large for the smaller bums but as I have had 9lb babies I found this not to be too bad. I found that even now after three children they are still useable they can take there time to dry but in the tumble dryer they take hardly any time.
