Advantages: Saves money, good for the environment.

Disadvantages: initial cost, although works out better in long run, and a bit more work.

I must confess I haven't used these reusable nappies exclusively, but as often as possible. I use a disposable for the overnight stretch, and if I'm going out anywhere I use disposables rather than lug dirty nappies around. Saying that, it's just sheer laziness that makes me do that, it would be no great hardship to use Kooshies in either of these situations.

They are preshaped and fasten with velcro. There is an internal flap that you fold differently for boys or girls, and they have a waterproof outer. You need to change them more often than disposables, but that's about the only drawback. I soak them in Bicarbonate of Soda in a bucket, and wash and tumble dry them (you can line dry them, but I find that tumble drying them makes them a little softer). Once you're into the routine it's not a problem, and I must admit, I feel quite saintly for doing our little bit for the environment! It saves so much money as well, and it's not that much more hassle, honest!! They say that it makes toilet training easier as well, but my daughter is determined to disprove that theory.

I can't recommend these highly enough.
