Advantages: Eco-friendly, No nappy rash

Disadvantages: Some sizing problems, Expensive at first, Lots of washing

After a lot of research and talking to people who used Kooshies, I purchased 10 Classic nappies and 5 Ultras. My son was able to use the Classic nappies from about two weeks old (4kg) with liners and the waterproof outers that go with them. They have washed really well. I don't bother soaking them but just wash them in the machine in warm water. I would recommend these especially as an alternative to regular old-fashioned cloth nappies as they seem to be much more absorbent. My son hasn't had any problem with nappy rash and I find them really easy to use.

The Ultras, however, have not been so good for us. He's three months old now (about six-and-a-half kg) and is not yet big enough for the Ultras to fit/work properly. I only use them when I run out of Classics. On three occasions in the last two weeks he has pooed on the person who is holding him (me). He is a slim baby so does not fill out the leg part of the nappy and so the poo leaks out the side. Even when the nappy has just been changed this can happen. I also bought the Ultras just before they redesigned the "Aplix tabs" so by the time he fits them in the legs, his stomach will be too big. The tabs meet almost in the middle of his stomach on the Classics but won't fit for too much longer on the Ultras. I have a friend who has a very large baby (three weeks younger) with chubby legs and she has no problem with leakage. The Ultras are also showing signs of disintegration despite the fact that they haven't had a lot of use and are washed in a front loader machine (which is supposedly gentler on clothes than a top-loading machine). The Classics have washed well. I will be sending back the toddler-sized Ultras and getting some more Classics.
