Advantages: Comfy. Lovely design.
Disadvantages: A faff to clean.
The 'Roundabout' nursery décor range at Mama's & Papa's is a funky, modern range, available in pink (with the main characters being 2 bunnies) for girls, & blue (with the main characters being 2 dogs) for boys. After finding out 'bump' was blue, I opted for the latter....!
Since I love contemporary, minimalist style the nursery had to be the same way, but whilst still looking like a baby's room. This range fitted the bill perfectly, although it took a few weeks of shopping around to reach the conclusion that the extortionate M&P prices were worth it....
The changing mat is one of the 'deluxe' range as M&P term it. They do sell standard changing mats at reasonable prices, but the deluxe range tends to co-ordinate with one of the many décor ranges & come with additional features.
The Roundabout Boys changing mat comprises a padded, plastic covered change mat with raised edges (a standard item), which comes with a removable blue cotton cover (removable by a simple 'flap' design on the reverse - like a pillowcase).
There are several squares of Velcro on the upper side of the cover - these are to enable a terry towel insert to be affixed. This covers 2/3rds of the mat & is white, edged with a turquoise & blue 'circle' pattern. The inserts are rubber-backed so they stay put & are waterproof. The mat comes with 2 of the inserts so that one can be washed with the other still in place. The inserts also have a strip of Velcro at one end - this is to affix a cute fabric pillow, which is simply adorned with a 'stop' sign. A felt toy in the shape of one of the characters heads affixes to the mat also with Velcro. This houses a squeaker to keep baby entertained. As with all M&P products, there is a M&P logo which is positioned at the bottom right corner.
Dimensions of the mat: H:4 x W: 46 x L: 80cm approx. This is a seemingly standard size & the mat should fit with most changing units. The price is £28 which is pretty steep - in my opinion not worth paying if you don't have the rest of the range to compliment it.
I love this mat - it looks great set on top of my gloss white changer/dresser. It is however a bit of a pain in that when it gets dirty (as it inevitably does!), you have to remove the covers & pop them in the washer. With a standard plastic mat, all that would be required is a quick wipe over! I like the fact it comes with a pillow as it makes changing time a bit comfier for baby.

- 01/07/09 Looks a bit over-engineered to me - the having to remove the cover and wash it would be a deal breaker for me I am afraid, no matter how co-ordinated etc. |
