Metanium is a thick bright yellow cream (mustard colour) with a slight grainy texture to it. You only need to use a very small amount of this cream to apply a thin layer to the skin which means although this cream is quite expensive it does last a long time. Applying more of the cream than needed doesn't make the rash clear any quicker, using just a tiny amount really does clear the rash quickly. The cream does have a mild medicated smell butit is not overpowering.

I have used this cream since my twins were born because it was recommended to me by the nurses and midwifes at the hospital. When my twins were young they suffered a lot with very runny poo and because of this were prone to nappy rash which was sometimes so severe it would make them bleed and cause them a lot of discomfort but after apply this cream it would ease any pain straight away and after a couple of nappy changes the rash would be gone. Nowthe twins are older they don't get nappy rash as often but this cream still eases any pain from nappy rash and helps to heal their skin, the twins always say 'cream' when I change their nappy if they are sore so it must ease the pain well. The tube does seem a bit small for the price it costs but because you only need to apply a very small amount it does last a long time. I would definately reccommend this cream and as well as still using it on my twins I will definetly be using it on the new baby if it gets nappy rash. The only downside to this cream that I can find is it will stain if you get it on any fabric so you should be careful when applying.

When I used to take the twins for weighing regularly I used to get the cream on prescription from the health visitor though I don't know if it is still possible to do this as since I moved and don't see health visitor often anymore and I have been buying it but it may be worth asking for it on prescription.
