Advantages: Clears up nappy rash really fast!

Disadvantages: Can stain sometimes, need olive oil to remove effectively

Metanium is a barrier cream used to prevent or heal nappy rash. It is a thick, yellow, paste like substance with a very pleasant smell. It costs around £2.90 and can be bought from most supermarkets and chemists.

The cream works as a waterproof barrier against the babies skin thereby preventing the urine or faeces irritating our babies gentle skin on their bottoms! Less is definitely more with this cream - the temptation is to put a lot on (becase more cream would heal the area better - right? No!!) but it should be applied so thinly that you can barely see it when applied! Using a blob the size of a small pea should give you more than enough, bearing in mind a lot of it will stick to your fingers too!

When changing their nappy, clean the area first (most likely with cotton wool and water if they have nappy rash to prevent any of the chemicals in nappy wipes irritating their skin further) and gently pat dry with cotton wool. Then apply metanium by gently dabbing the areas affected with it rather than rubbing it on (again to avoid further skin irritation). This needs to be repeated with each nappy change. Metanium is rather hard to remove - use something gentle like olive oil to take it off, comes off very quickly that way!

Premature infants are very prone to nappy rash due to how delivate their skin is, I have seen this cream work wonders when I have used it caring for these babies at work! I would have no heistation in using it on or daghter if she got nappy rash!

If the rash doesn't show signs of healing within a few days of using this product then see your gp! Also, take care - it can stain some clothes! (Nothing vanish cant solve though!)

Summary: Wonderful product, would highly recommend!
