Advantages: Pleasantly scented, cleans my granddaughter's hands and face nicely, decent sized wipes
Disadvantages: Too thick to clean adequately at nappy change time, coarse once they have dried out slightly
While doing a little shopping in Morrisons last week my mobile rang and it was my daughter asking, nay begging, me to have my two year old granddaughter for the night so she could take the older two to the cinema and for a meal afterwards. Of course I agreed and then headed across to the baby aisle to buy some nappies and wipes. Morrisons had had a special offer on Johnson's baby wipes so of course the shelves were empty of those, with all I had to choose from being Huggies and Morrisons own brand wipes.
My granddaughter's skin doesn't react well to any of the Huggies wipes so I decided to take a chance with the Morrisons wipes as in the past I have been impressed with both the Tesco and Sainsbury's branded baby products.
The packaging looks good, it's a normal baby wipe pack with a thick plastic flip up lid above the hole where the wipes are dispensed. This is an excellent idea as in theory it means that the hole can be completely sealed thereby keeping the wipes moist and preventing them from drying out, which would be wonderful news if only the hole didn't elongate with use so that the hole is eventually bigger than the plastic covering!
The wipes themselves are fairly large, initially I was very impressed with how thick they are but soon realised that this isn't such a bonus as I had first thought. The problem is that the wipes are so thick that I found it awkward to clean my granddaughter's bottom thoroughly as getting into the creases of her skin with such thick wipes was almost impossible. Also I noticed that as the wipe was in use the smoothness of the surface was removed and I was left with a rather coarse wipe that didn't feel particularly kind even on my hands, let alone on my granddaughter's delicate skin.
The thickness does however mean that the wipes are much stronger than other supermarket own brands, none of the wipes I used tore or stretched at all which does mean they are ideal for cleaning the little one's hands even if I had to buy a different brand for her bottom. She has had no reaction to the wipes when used in this way; I noticed that when I used them at nappy change time her bottom did become a little red (not sore or irritated, just red) but using them on her hands and face causes no problem at all.
The cleaning abilities of these Morrisons wipes is very good in my opinion. They remove visible dirt from my granddaughter's skin and leave them smelling fresh and clean, admittedly the scent of these wipes isn't as good as that from my favourite Johnson's wipes but it's very nice indeed and more reminiscent of make-up remover wipes than baby wipes.
Overall I'm torn about these wipes. I find them effective when used as a general hand-and-face cleanser but they are not really suitable for when I am changing my granddaughter's nappy. Priced at just £1.09 for 80 wipes I would recommend you buy a packet and try them for yourself as it might be that they suit you just that little bit more than they do me.
Summary: A nice enough baby wipe and very economical, but I didn't get on too well with them as bottom wipes.
