Advantages: Cheap, Makes bath time easier and less stressful.

Disadvantages: None

When we were shopping for baby essentials, my Husband and I decided to not go for a traditional baby bath and to buy one of these sponge bath supports from Mothercare instead. Unfortunately we were then given a baby bath and have been using that until very recently when our Daughter started to out grow it. However I am now so disappointed that we didn't just use this item from the start instead of the baby bath...

Having used a normal baby bath for the whole of our little girl's life, we encountered an unexpected problem when putting her in the 'big' bath for the first time - she was terrified! Absolutely scared stiff, despite me being in the bath too to help put her mind at rest and to get her comfortable in her new, unfamiliar surroundings. We tried everything to try and relax her, but it wasn't working. Her bottom lip would wobble and that would be it!

A couple of nights in when the situation wasn't improving, I remembered that we had bought this bath support months ago and decided to give it a go. I am so glad that I did. We put the support in a bath of shallow water and laid her on it and although she didn't smile, she didn't cry and actually looked more at ease instantly. As the night's went on, she became much more relaxed and is now enjoying her bathtime. It's so cute the way she looks like she's floating on a strange lilo! My little girl is now learning to splash and this bath support helps her to do so as her arms and legs can dangle over the side, so she's halfway there!

So, what exactly is the item you may ask? Well it is basically a large foam sponge which is shaped (like in the picture above). The head part of the support is raised more than the bottom foot part and this means that your baby's head is further out of the water. The sponge sits in the bottom of the bath and the baby lies on it, leaving your hands free to wash them with (always useful when bathing a slippery baby)! It is a simple concept which really works, doesn't take up much space and is cheap at only £6.99. According to the Mothercare website, the bath support is suitable from birth to approximately 6 months.

I would 100% recommend this product to any new parent, as it really does make bathtime easier and so much more enjoyable.

Summary: Wish I'd started using it sooner...
