Advantages: I'm getting my money back!
Disadvantages: see above
Did you know that 4% of all landfill is made up of disposable nappies?? Pretty frightening fact. When our son reached 7 months, my husband and I made a conscious decision to change over to re-usable nappies, partly for reasons of cost and partly because we found we had the equivalent of one whole extra dustbin bag of rubbish each week which was just nappies. We decided to get our first nappies from Mothercare. A pack of 12 super absorbant terry flat squares and a pack of 10 shaped nappies. I thought that the shaped ones would be sufficient, with a liner, for my son and they are a lot less bulky than folded terries. They are also completely rubbish!!! Firstly, the pack I bought weren't even all the same size. They are supposed to be "one size" with no indication of a minimum or maximum age or size that they will fit. when I checked my pack some of them were a good inch or 2 different from others in size. Also, at nearly 8 months, they won't even fit my son for much longer, the smaller ones are already too small for him. Some one size!! Secondly, if your child wees in it, it WILL get soaked through. It is not very absorbant and doesn't hold much wee at all. This means that whatever wrap your baby is wearing (gone are the days of needing plastic knickers!) will get wet also and need changing. I'm very unimpressed with them and I've tried boosting them with allsorts but the only way I've even been able to use them at all is to use them inside another nappy. Even 2 together isn't any good. On the up side though, I complained to Mothercare.com about the sizing and they have said if I send them back they will inspect and refund them. So there is hope! I'll use the £20 refund to buy some decent re-usables!

- 27/11/00 Sorry you were so unlucky, mine are all the same size after being washed for two years! If Mothercare don't refund then you could try using them as a booster at night, inside another nappy. |

- 09/09/00 I also bought some of these and was given some too. My daughter is very skinny and a light wee-er so they have been of some use as 2 together are fine for her. I also use them to boost other cloth nappies. However I certainly wouldn't recommend them as a system - too thin I think. |

- 08/08/00 Glad I read your opinion as I was thinking of buying these, decided to go for good old fashioned terries in the end and after hearing how useless the shaped ones are I'm glad I did! |
