I'm sure my arse would get sore if I wore a nappy all day ! Babies who have a nappy on all day are at risk of developing nappy rash .

Nappy rash occurs as a series of liitle red bums in the middle of a patch of red skin . It can also occur on the tops of the legs and on the bum region !( Not very scientific , better not let my biologist girlfriend read this ! )

Ok nappy rash occurs as the babies skin cannot breathe and is subjected to a close layer of stagnant air , mixed with urine and possibly stools until you hear, smell or decided that the nappy needs a change !!!
Urine and stools can also be very acidic due to the high content of uric acid being excreted .Thus this acid burns the skin and makes the skin and baby upset . Nappy rash occurs more often during the transition onto juice and during teething .

Preventing the urine reaching the skin is one way of combating nappy rash , this is done by using a barrier cream such as BOOTS ZINC AND CASTOR OIL CREAM . It is an oil rich cream that forms a seal on the skin preventing it from being attached by the urine .

The cream comes in a variety of size tubs , we tend to buy the 300ml tub as it lasts longer .It is clinically tested and is Lanolin free ( peanut oil free , which means it shouldn't cause skin problems eg exema )

This creme provides a barrier against moisture and so protects against nappy rash. It is white in colour and non-scented .

You apply it to clean , dry skin before putting on thE babies nappy .

The ingrediants are for those of you interested ( or worried about allergic reactions ) are Ricius communis , arachis hypogaea, Cera alba , Zinc oxide and Ceteryl alcohol .

We have been using this product since our tot was a new born and she's only had nappy rash once when she started to be weaned which we put down to being from the apple juice . So we find it very effective .
