Before starting to write about this miracle cream, we need to clarify few points such as:

What is nappy rash?

How do you treat it?

*To answer to the first point it is simply and purely a condition usually irritated skin, red spots caused by urine and pooh (might sound funny to ay pooh but I couldn?t find another better word) found in the area covered by the nappy with effect of breaking down the protective barrier normally formed by the skin, causing redness and rawness and allowing germs of various types to attack.

*Now when it comes to treat it, that is where the cream mainly made of zinc and castor oil takes effect. But you can also get into a routine of changing the nappy often to keep bums clean and dry.

At each nappy change make sure to wash the buttocks and surrounding area with warm water using a soft cloth or cotton wool. Babies usually like this moment and if you are lucky you can catch many smiles too. Don?t forget to dry the wet area and then even if there isn?t any sign of a rash or a broken skin apply a good dose of cream.

I used to leave my girl without a nappy for few hours so that her bum could get some fresh air and breathe as any other bum. Try it to and baby will feel so free also.
I was told by many practitioners but laso mums and friends not to use talcum powder as it may worsen the rash. Experienced mums are for me valuable support so I would advise not to hesitate to ask around for tips.
You can also talk to your GP, they are more than qualified to help you with this kind of problems. Most doctors will actually recommend coming along to the surgery for a thorough check if the rash doesn?t improve or worsens after few days. They will tell you if the rash may have become infected and an antibiotic cream may be necessary.
(If your baby has other skin problems, such as eczema, a cream containing hydrocortisone which stops inflammation may be prescribed. My daughter is actuall
y under a similar treatment to stop her belly button to get infected. And it is very efficient. The area infected is not moist anymore and has considerably reduced. Soon she?ll have a normal button hopefully.)

Other important points

Be wary of disposable baby wipes if your child has a nappy rash, especially if it is raw and the skin is broken. They may contain a perfume and may sting if applied to broken skin. It is the same for creams supposedly made ot hydrate the skin so make sure they are alcohol and perfume free.
And at last be aware of thoroughly rinse reusable nappies as traces of detergent or soap may affect your baby?s skin.

As any other mothers i wish my girls wouldn?t suffer from nappy rash but i think it is too much to ask. At a stage or another every single baby is having nappy rash and you have to learn how to treat it and prevent it.
My first daughter Emma was like a drive test for me and when Leah, my second daughter came to this bright and flooded world, i knew it was better to be safe than sorry especially. Emma used to have terrible rash when i mean terrible, it was red, blistery and was close to bleeding.
So even if no signs of rash put from the very first day ointment as a pure prevention, being the best course of action I reckon. And it works.
Before you leave the hospital after the birth the nurses give you few welcome packs known as maternity packs. They have several samples of washing machine detergents, fabric conditioners, wipes, leaflets, helping guides and most of all a tiny pot of nappy rash cream. The best on the market according to many doctors and other specialists. I am sure you know the one I am talking about.

Anyway the first nappy change was quite a challenge for my partner and I but after a probation period we happily succeeded in our task. Our wee girl was so much comfortable in this new and fresh nappy. After few days she started to show symptoms of rash. So having
read about it, I applied the nappy rash cream from the maternity pack onto her very rosy but inflamed cheeks. You could see it was relieving for her as she was making faces like my Nana.

After several days her condition had improved but not enough to my eyes. She still showed irritated skin and very red spots almost blistery.
So I decided to go into town and look for another ointment that could improve her condition. It is when I walked into a shop that I noticed a tub of castor and zinc oil. I was quite intrigued on how this mixture could help in nappy rash so I gave it a try because I knew I had to experiment to find out what suits best my baby.

They are several brands but the one I use are made of Lanolin (natural oil of wool) and other ingredients known as Petrolatum, Zinc Oxyde, Ricinus Communis. I will not stop on those but will say however they are all protective and heal the skin.
It is a white and consistent soft texture. The pot will last few months even if applying a good amount on the affected area. It is quite cheap as it costs around 70p to £1 depending on the shops and brands. It usually comes in a tub of 250g.
I used it since I noticed little or no improvements with the other very expensive cream and I am absolutely satisfied with it. I wouldn?t change it even if I was given again free samples?.
I can?t give you brand names as whenever I buy a pot it is never the same maybe because it s cheap to produce so you get different ones all the time.

But I hope you will try it to see for yourself.

An excellent op. Zinc and Castor oil cream is one of those old fashioned things to always keep in the cupboard. Well done for finding it.
