ECO Soft Baby Wipes

Since the arrival of our daughter, the beautiful Eva Rose, we have been endeavouring to use washable wipes and washable nappies. However, one of the drawbacks of early parenthood is the untried and untested capabilities in simple organisation, and the unfathomable way that time slips past you like a fast running stream. Beautiful, but fast. So being vaguely unorganised, and missing those endlessly long afternoons of pre-baby life, there have been days when we have had, quite simply, no clean nappies and no clean wipes. So in an attempt to become vaguely organised and pre-empt these days of sudden “eek – no nappy” panic, we have purchased a stock of eco-friendly disposables (review to follow, but in brief, they’re great!) and eco-friendly wipes so that our darling daughter is never left, how shall we say…nappy less?

The Company

There are bound to be other companies out there claiming eco-friendliness and to be fair these days you do kind of wonder whether their claims have any substance or whether it’s all just a fancy marketing ploy aimed at those folks that want to be seen to be green but don’t have time for research to check them out. The thing I liked about this company though, is that it was set up by a mum, Marlene Sandberg (from Sweden) because she wanted to find a better way for disposable baby products. And from what I’ve read and know about the nappies and the wipes, I think she’s achieved it. The product range is wide, and includes things like plasters, disposable bibs, sanitary products and breast pads, so it covers more than just baby stuff. The great thing is that everything they make is biodegradable as far as is possible and as green as possible – like the packets are based on natural chalk and they use totally chlorine free pulp (so no bleach on baby!)

The Wipes

Soft, strong and delicately scented is how I would describe these wipes. The scent and possibly the softness, and certainly the bottom-friendly-ness comes from the Aloe Vera extract inherent in these wipes. Knowing that the wipes will be kind to my girl’s bum is one of the main reasons I buy them. The packaging is very simple and natural looking plus it is recyclable and clearly displays the accolades the product has received, including the Mother and Baby Magazine gold award for best baby wipes. There are 70 wipes in the pack I’m looking at now, and they seem to last quite a while – we use an average of two wipes per bum change but because we also use cloth wipes that go in the washing machine with the nappies, one packet of these wipes can last us 2 weeks!

Where to Buy and How Much

With a Mother and Baby Gold Award for best wipes, it seems that the baby industry is picking up on the idea of making disposables better for the planet, and I have noticed more big shops stocking them. I get mine in Boots, but I know waitrose and Sainsburys have started stocking them too. In Boots the price for a pack of 30 wipes is £1.49 – this is a handy size to carry when you’re out and about in case of emergencies. The 70 pack is £2.49. I try not to compare this price with that of other leading brands as there is no comparison really in the actual wipe itself – like comparing organic fruit with non-organic fruit. It’s all about the chemicals to me and what I do and don’t want in contact with my babies bum!

What I Think

I have to say that I am more keen on washable nappies than disposables and there is nothing much that will change how I feel about that, but as an emergency backup, these are great and I will always buy them over the big buck brands like Pampers. I simply don‘t feel comfortable with the idea of wiping my darling girl’s bum with a non-biodegradable cloth that is full of chemicals my girl will absorb. I love their green-ness, I love their roots from a mum’s concept to the high street, and I love that they give a big thumbs down to leading brands that continue to bring our children into contact with harmful chemicals. Three cheers for Marlene!

Highly recommended!

Thank you for reading, Kate x

Well done . yes cloth nappies and wipes( my daughter has some thin flannel cut up (or uses a real flannel here one or two bought by nanna purposefully . )) are good but I think a few disposable ones acceptable for some occasions.

kEEP ON ENJOYING THESE BABY DAYS THEY PASS SO QUICKLY .
