Advantages: Great for eczema and dry sky conditions

Disadvantages: the price

From birth my eldest son has suffered from extremely dry skin. He is two and half years old now and I find it flairs up from time to time. He has been on different medicated creams to help with it and we found it got it under control. Although we had the cream sorted we didn't know what to put in his bath. Johnsons baby bath didn't seem to help. On a visit to our local Tesco's we came across this oilatum junior for sensitive skin. It couldn't be any worse so we give it a go.

Oilatum Junior is a liquid Paraffin. It is too be used for eczema and dry skin conditions. This particular one is suitable for babies and children.
It comes in a white bottle with a screw cap lid. There isn't any safety cap on it so be warned as the oily based liquid wouldn't be easy to clean up. From the supermarket the bottle is a box. It has a cute little cartoon picture of what look like a mum and child so it instantly cries out to parents. It looks friendly if ever a box could!

It is simple to use. You add 1 to 3 capfuls to eight inches of bath water. Direction for usage is on the back of the bottle on how much you should apply depending on the age of your child. For my son I usually use 1 ½ caps and that is enough for him.

Oilatum is a clear substance and oily to the touch as you would expect from the name. You don't get any bubbles with this bath solutions but we can't have everything when it's helping your little ones skin. No bubbles have ever bothered my son as he has used this from an early age so he hasn't known any different. It recommends not to use a soap substance with this as it is a cleanser and there is no need. It is fragrance free so you notice when you open it there is no smell.

Oilatum isn't cheap ( about £5 for 150ml )and after using it a couple of times I began to think it was silly I got my sons cream on prescription why couldn't I get some bath stuff. So I asked my doctor and I haven't had to buy any since. He is now prescribed Oilatum plus and it's exactly the same as the oilatum junior you buy in the shops. Just a little tip for you all if you use it on a regular basis.

A big warning should come with this product though it does make the bath slippery due to its oil base. Every time I pick it up from the chemist they warn me about it. I would recommend putting a bath mat down in the bath if you don't already.

We haven't looked back since the first time we used this. It helped my son's skin and left it feeling soft and clean. I would highly recommend giving it a go if you baby/child suffers from dry skin and if you find you need to use it for every bath go see your doctor you may just be able to get it on prescription.

Summary: A great product
