Advantages: Small base, keeps baby warm, lightweight & easy to carry
Disadvantages: Can be pricey if bought new
The Tummy Tub is basically a bucket with a rounded bottom. It has markings on the side that enable you to fill the tub acording to your child's weight. This enables the child to be placed in the tub and the water comes up to their shoulders. The original Tummy Tub is an opaque White, however they now come in blue and pink. It is light and easy to carry even when full as it has a lip around the edge of it.
I had never heard of this before until I purchased one for £2 at a local boot fair. It was the best £2 I spent in a while.
I bought it when my first child was around 10 months, he was able to sit up, and was getting too big for the small baby bath we then owned. What do you do when a child cannot stand in the shower & you don't have a big bath? The answer is .... buy a Tummy tub!
He loved it, but be careful how much water you put in as we nearly drowned him the first time! A child that size does look strange when placed in a "bucket" however he seemed comfortable enough and enjoyed splashing around. It can be a little dificult to keep the child in the bath once they are able to stand, and are intent on geting out, but that is the same as any bath. The thing with the Tummy Tub though, is that it is much easier to tip over as it only has a small base.
The Tummy Tub really comes into its own when you have a particularly small child to bathe. My second son was born weighing just under 4lb and three weeks early. The Tummy Tub was amazing as a child that small floats in the water - obviously you still have to hold the child, please do read the safety instuctions! It was great as it kept his little body nice and warm, something very difficult to do with a child that small.
I would sugest 2 people are around to take the child out of the tub as it can be a little tricky to manouver the towel around them until you have done it a few times
Summary: Great for small or premature babies!

This was a good review, it pretty much told me what I needed about the product and I would be inclined to rate it 'Very useful' if only you included some more info about how much would one need to spend one one (we cannot all count on getting one at the bootfair) and where to look for one. |
