Pampers Baby-Dry Nappies
Advantages: Very comfortable fit and good absorbing qualities
Disadvantages: more expensive than others
Please note that this review is specific to size 5.
We go through many nappies in this house but over the last 5 years we have tried varying brands and different options from each of these brands and have found some to be better than others. One thing we are always very aware of is the price- some nappies can be twice the price as others and sometimes they can vary in price themselves depending upon the shop or if it's a special offer so we always look out at what's on offer and when it's a brand we like, we buy in bulk so we don't spend more money than we need to.
I always thought that Pampers was a brand that could be trusted and when we first had a baby we bought Pampers nappies. However, over the course of Hope's couple of years in nappies we found that some Pampers products were not as reliable as others and had a terrible experience when using their Active Fit as 9 times out of 10 they would leak and leave her wet through even at night time when it wasn't as though she was being 'active'. We now like to buy Tesco's own brand and find them to be very reliable but we do, however, like to buy Baby Dry from Pampers when they are on special offer as they are good quality.
These nappies are size 5 which fit babies 11kg-25kg or 24lb-54lb which seems like a huge variation really but our baby fits them very well. Our baby has been wearing these for about 4 months, the last time we had him weighed he was only 21lb but these still fit in him fine and very seldom leak so I think so long as you fasten them tight enough around teh waist they will fit your baby even if they're not quite in the size guide as suggested. I think that the fit is very comfortable, they are not tight around his legs or around his tummy. Our baby is only petite and very small for his age so maybe if you have a chunky baby with chubby legs it may be a different matter but for us these are a comfortable fit. We never see any irritation on his skin as if it's been digging in and the nappy itself feels quite soft which is kind against his very delicate skin. Whilst wearing these nappies our very active little boy is able to still do everything he wants to whether it be racing around or climbing this nappy does not restrict him whatsoever!
Our latest problem is getting our baby to keep his nappy on. He is obsessed with trying to get it off even if he has clothing on he will find a way to undo it and then pull it down his trousers and this is a bit of a challenge right now! This nappy doesn't lose it's stick very easily though so if he does swipe it off I can put it back on and the tabs will stick back down well and this is usually the case for about 6 times of putting it back on before the sticky runs out. It also stays up very well despite him being active, it has never fallen down even though he is only slight and he is very active so that is a very good fit nappy.
Keeping them dry
These nappies are supposed to last up to 12 hours and so obviously are important for overnight use. I wouldn't ever leave our baby in a nappy for 12 hours unless of course it is over night and I have found that these very rarely leak. We had an incident once where they did leak but I think it was a case of me having not put it on properly enough. This nappy absorbs moisture really well and does last a good 12 hours. The longest our baby has slept for has been 12 hours and the nappy remained in tact and he wasn't damp at all so I do agree with their time scale on this.
Compared to other brands
As I say we have tried many, many brands over the years and I think these are a very good one to go for. They are much better than Huggies which tended to feel rough against the skin, they are better than their own brand of Active Fit which would very regularly leak and they are way better than Morrison's which were just terrible in every way. The only brand I don't think it beats is Tesco's and mainly because they are very similar but Tesco's own are cheaper and actually have nicer pictures on! so I am giving these 4 stars because I think they can lose 1 star for being more expensive than others which I think is them just being greedy because they hope more people will buy it because it is a well known brand. These nappies currently cost £11.99 for a pack in which you get 54 nappies.
These are very good nappies which do help to keep your little one dry for a long period of time which is important if they sleep for a good 12 hours at night. They are a very comfortable fit and the sticky on the tabs is very good too. I think that they are slightly more expensive than supermarket own brands which are just as good so I'm marking it down by one star as a result. I recommend this brand though and find this size and design work very well on our very active little toddler.
Summary: Decent nappies
