Advantages: Small to carry around; soft

Disadvantages: Pricey; Quite thin

Pampers Change Mats are 60 x 60 cms in size. The side that is placed next to the surface is made from plastic and will, therefore, prevent any leaks from going through the mat. The side on which you place baby is soft and slightly padded. To be honest, I'm not sure if the mats would slide around or move, particularly if baby was wriggling / kicking.

The change mats are very thin. Personally, I see this as being both a good and a bad point. The advantage is that the mats can be folded up really small and are ideal for packing into baby's changing bag.

The disdavantage is that the mats would not give too much protection for baby when placing him / her onto a harder surface.

The size of the mats are ideal for babies, particularly when they are young, although two mats would be needed when changing an older baby, as one mat would not be long enough. Luckily, my baby has not had any accidents on a change mat yet, so I have been able to re-use them. This makes the mats more economical, as they are quite pricey (just under £6.00 for 12)

The mats, although primarily designed for nappy changing are versatile enough to be used for other functions, such as sitting / lieing baby onto when playing or eating, placing under a potty as baby gets older, placing over your shoulder when burping baby.

Summary: Overall, a useful product to add to the long list of baby essentials when travelling about.

Honestly, I just rolled a terry into into my change bag. A nice fluffy and thick pile one from little ewes, not a cheap thin thing like you see on the high street. Soft, absorbent, and if messed on, could just get tied into a nappy sack. It also offered double duty for mopping up baby posset and what not and handy for wiping dry rained on trolley seats at the shops.
