I agree with elvina. These things were only invented a year ago - so what did we do before that? I can see the advantage in having a portable changing mat, but you can buy those very cheaply and just wipe them down if they get wet.

This is just another ploy to get manufacturers to make us think we need something, when we don't. No doubt, other manufacturers will follow suit and will try and find another angle to sell them from.

When my son was potty training, we didn't bother with those pull-up pants either. Children don't learn to control their bladders if there is always something there to catch the drips! They learn that if they get wet, they stay wet. My son was potty-trained in about 2 weeks using this method, but it would have been a lot longer if he had been wearing training pants.

OK, back to Care Mats. We're now starting to get my son dry at night. This is not proving to be easy, but if I was using the Care Mats under his sheet, he would rely on it too much and would never realise that his bed was wet. Instead, I am using an all-over fitted waterproof cover under the bedsheet. This has the effect of protecting the mattress, but he knows when his bed is wet. All it takes then is to change the sheet, and put the washing on next morning.

Yes, it's a bit of a pain, but well worth what I am saving on the cost of those mats!
