Advantages: easy to pull up and down, absorbant
Disadvantages: bad for the environment, easy to pull up and down! expensive and unnattractive
I am a reluctant convert to Pampers Easy Up Pants, and now use them with great success.
My son, Amos, has just turned 2, and after 2 years as a cloth nappy addict i really did not want to change to a disposable nappy but was unsatisfied with the alternatives in cloth.
Approaching his 2nd birthday it took us by surprise that he was showing more and more interest in using the loo, to copy his elder siblings, although he was in no way ready to go straight into big boy pants (which is what we have always done in the past at 2 1/2 years). I really did not want to like these - they are a wasteful product, bad for the environment and terribly expensive, but both my husband and I (and little Amos) have been very happy.
They are soooo absorbant - we have not had any leaks with these at all, and will easily last overnight 7pm until 7am. They are also very slim fitting (although bulk out when wet), so give a feel of real pants.
The elastic is very soft, and not too tight, so no red marks around the waste for a little one, and this makes them very easy to pull up and down for a stint on the potty as when required!
The down side of this easy up and down function is that Amos has been known to pull his trousers and pants down in more innapropriate places, and has occasionally whipped the nappy off at bedtime and so wet his bed! I now need to make sure he wears a vest to bed under his pyjamas, and check on him 30 minutes after bed time to check he hasn't thrown his nappy away!
I am yet to make up my mind if they help or hinder the potty training process, as we are still in the process of doing it at the moment. One part of me thinks they are a great thing, as AMos can wear them like pants, and slowly get used to going to the loo whilst wearing something to absorb any accidents, however, because they are so absorbant he does not feel wet, so may get lazy, as there is no real need to get to the loo.
Only time will tell with that one though - and my carpets will certainly be saved until then!
The design is nice enough, a bit boring, but i am used to wonderfully funky cloth nappies, and of course this does not affect the function of the Easy Up Pant. The really are not very pretty to look at though!
All in all, they are great, i like them far more than i thought i would, and hopefully they will be a fantastic potty training tool!
Summary: a great tool to help with potty training and for fidgety bums!

- 30/09/09 I use the tesco version, so much cheaper and seem just as good. I'm tempted to try cloth nappies with next one but they sound like such hard work!
Great review though. R. |
