Advantages: Colours on the front fade to show child has done a wee, good fit, dampness helps teach your child
Disadvantages: The 'easy to open' tabs are easy for my granddaughter to open too!
My daughter is currently getting my 18 month old granddaughter ready for potty training, and this has involved buying training pants even though she hasn't bought a potty yet. The hope being that she will get used to wearing 'pants' instead of a nappy, in theory!
A lady in Tesco recommended Pampers Feel 'N' Learn pants as they had worked well when she potty trained her little one. The idea of these pants is that they don't keep your child too dry so they can feel the wetness on their skin, which will let them know that they have been to the toilet.
We have been using them on my granddaughter for about 4 weeks now during the day and I think they are gradually teaching her because she will physically come and tell her mum or me when she is wet, which I don't think she would do if she was wearing a nappy which kept the dampness from her skin.
Another useful addition to these pants is the fact that the colour on the front will start to fade when it gets wet, this doesn't really mean anything to my granddaughter as she is still too young to notice but it's handy for me to spot when she has wet and try to prompt her into telling me she's done a wee - or worse!
These Feel 'N' Learn pants come in size 5, 6 and 6+ and I think this range of sizes are perfect for whatever age you decide to begin potty training. My granddaughter uses size 5, as she does in nappies, and these fit perfectly so I'd say the sizes are definitely accurate compared to the Pampers range of nappies.
Please be aware that although these pants will absorb small amounts of urine, they shouldn't really be used for as long as nappies between changes. The reason for this is that they are not so absorbant as nappies and your little one is likely to leak through to her clothes if you leave them too long. Also I've noticed that keeping one of these on her when wet will irritate the delicate skin around her nappy area much worse than nappies do, she has had very little nappy rash at all but she does occasionally become a bit sore after using one of these.
I love the fact that you can buy these pants in a choice of 'boy' or 'girl' designs, we are currently using the Strawberry Shortcake design which is attractive and very girly - just right for our little princess!
My granddaughter always seems very comfortable in these Feel 'N' Learn pants and they do not hinder her movement at all, she has been walking for over six months now so was already mobile when her mum started using them but perhaps the high leg cut of the pants could even help a child who is a lazy walker because they are certainly not as bulky as an average nappy.
These pants do not have tabs like nappies, they are stepped into and slipped up like a proper pair of pants. When you come to change baby you simply have to pull the sides of the pants to rip them open, this is handy now my granddaughter is a boisterous toddler because I can hold her down with one hand and undo the pants with the other. Unfortunately it also means that my granddaughter can also rip them open, not too bad when she's doing it to tell me she's wet but awful when she deposits a pile of baby poo on the carpet just because she can!
All in all though I think these are great, I really do think they are helping with potty training (such as it is at such a young age) and my granddaughter loves the pictures on the pants. They are quite pricy at around £5 for fourteen nappies, although are very often on special offer in the supermarkets so I always stock up then.
Summary: Helping teach my granddaughter about using a potty.

- 21/12/08 I agree with mummy2harry - these don't really help with potty training, they are just too like nappies, and they are ridiculously expensive. I think the best thing is just to go straight to pants once your child is ready. Good review of the product though, Caroline xx |

- 20/12/08 I still don't think these are a good idea for potty training, as they're too much like nappies! For Harry, it was nappies straight to pants otherwise he just didn't get the different. Good review. |
